24th December – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Happy Christmas Eve. And Happy Christmas to my most Easterly readers. I trust you’ve already seen Santa visit you on the NORAD tracker. 🙂

Today’s Christmas song is Bowling for Soup performing ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’. Put the track on, get up and have a dance and accept the tidings they sing from me to you.

The challenges today are:

  1. Covenant-cide – Kill 120 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 3200 cR
  2. Throwing Fireballs – Kill 2 enemies with grenades in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1000 cR
  3. Explosive Ordnance Distribution – Earn 3 kills with ordnance weapons in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2000 cR
  4. Five-time Champ – Win 5 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 4343 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Covenant-cide – Kill 120 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 3200 cR

You could do this in one game of Gruntpocalypse, 2X Score Attack or some of the other variants. 2X is good because you’re likely to get slightly more than 120 so it takes account of TKs from the Covvies.

Throwing Fireballs – Kill 2 enemies with grenades in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1000 cR

So many options for this. As always I think the objective games in Multi-Team battle are good for grenade kills, especially Crazy King as you can chuck grenades in the ‘hill’ to try and get more than one guy. The Elite variant games can be good with sticky grenades, but Armour Lock is so common now it’s not worth it. I’m thinking perhaps Invasion too, since that’s also not based on kill volumes and you can throw grenades into the target areas when the opposition are unlocking something. Squad Slayer on Zealot can be a grenade fest, Action Sack’s DinoBlasters is excellent for grenades since no one looks for them, Slayer Pro type games can be good. Team Doubles King of the Hill’s variants too.

Explosive Ordnance Distribution – Earn 3 kills with ordnance weapons in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2000 cR

EOD weapons include: Rocket Launcher, Grenade Launcher, Spartan Laser, Plasma Launcher, and the Concussion Rifle. The very best modes for this are found in the Action Sack game types. I prefer DinoBlasters – you’re given a Concussion Rifle with an unlimited clip, so these kills should be really simple. Other good options are BOOMBall and Splockets.

Five-time Champ – Win 5 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 4343 cR

Team Slayer and SWAT will be excellent for this, as there are only two teams so a much better chance of winning than in multi team. If you are doing Multi Team, try objective based types and go for the objective itself, most teams don’t. I mean Crazy King, Oddball, Rocket Race. Grifball can be good if you’re ready to grab the bomb and score you can win really quickly.

Some nice challenges, but I won’t be getting them as I’m off to the family’s today for christmas. No Reach, no xbox, not even any internet, for three whole days. So Merry Christmas to Matthew and everyone else, I hope you all have a splendid time.

Merry Christmas everyone! Have a good one! I look forward to playing some post-Christmas Halo 4 with y’all next year 😀

PS Matthew – as a fan of Christmas music and an apparent fan of pop-punk, you really, really need to get the album “Oi To The World” by The Vandals. There really is no better Christmas punk album. 🙂

Since I don’t think I will be back till very late (I am leaving before the new challenges, and thus the new RDC challenge post, is written), so I would like to say:

HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!! ❤
