3rd January – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Well it’s back to work with me today. Which means the coffee is flowing, just the way I like it! Unfortunately it’s very wet and windy in the south of England today (everywhere really, but we have a storm warning too), which wasn’t pleasant, although it does make you appreciate being in a nice air conditioned office that much more!

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Covenant-cide – Kill 120 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 3200 cR
  2. Just Holdout – Kill 150 enemies on Holdout in Firefight Matchmaking – 2500 cR
  3. It was the Winter… – Complete Winter Contingency on Legendary without dying – 3000 cR
  4. Up Close and Personal – Kill 5 enemies with close quarters combat in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2343 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Covenant-cide – Kill 120 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 3200 cR

You could do this in one game of Gruntpocalypse, 2X Score Attack or some of the other variants. 2X is good because you’re likely to get slightly more than 120 so it takes account of TKs from the Covvies.

Just Holdout – Kill 150 enemies on Holdout in Firefight Matchmaking – 2500 cR

So you’re probably looking at two games of anything here – if you can get into Firefight Arcade on your own or with one other you might get this, but you might as well whizz through Gruntpocalypse, 2x Score Attack or something twice.

It was the Winter… – Complete Winter Contingency on Legendary without dying – 3000 cR

This is not particularly hard on Winter Contingency, for the most part you can run the map and stay in the jeep to run things over and let Noble team do a lot of the work. What makes it hard is the base section. I always say take out the Elite with the Concussion Rifle at the beginning, so keep peppering him with shots and take him down. Use DMR and grenades on the Jackals and Grunts, then when you get to the last section use a Plasma Pistol overcharge on the Sword Elite and headshot him with the DMR. If you get really stuck, there is a glitch which can be exploited, by exiting the game and restarting from last checkpoint it opens up the challenge again, and you can continue from where you died. Use Tyrant’s Mythic guide for how to do the most expert path on WC.

Up Close and Personal – Kill 5 enemies with close quarters combat in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2343 cR

Close Quarters Combat is essentially melee, assassination, sword, hammer or shotgun kills. Grifball is 100% melee and easy to get lots of kills when you get your timing right. Infection can be really good, and it does appear that sword kills count double for the sword and the pummel.

I have an urge to go after WC legit, no skipping, no saving. It’s just an urge though.

Off Topic and @Matthew – Halo 2 PC. Be ready to boost those cheevos in the next couple of weeks?

There’s an issue with XBL Gold Family accounts (http://goo.gl/GI066) and finding H2 servers. I’ll be removing mine as primary and making it a standalone account long enough to go after the MM achievements.

Only one challenge that works toward the Weekly? Just watch, I’ll finish the Weekly today and tomorrow, all the challenges will have something for the Weekly.

lol. Just playing like “normal” yesterday and I hit 247. I think I have a problem.

      • Randy says:

And by “normal” you mean NOT playing grifball and hammering everyone into little pieces

      • SgtMaj AJJ says:

A couple games of Grifball to finish up a 200 Kill custom at the end of the night. Grifball is very boring these days. I used to play the hell out of it.

(must have been an old entry in the browser that carried over the HC GT)

Finished the weekly in 8 hours as soon as it came out, Rumble Pit, Living Dead andMulti Team is where I got my kills!

Is it just me or is anyone else having issues with the lack of Holdout coming up as a choice? Usually after 3-5 times a particular map will come up.

    • Steve Bergen says:

It was taking forever searching for people in Firefight doubles or arcade. So I got everything done in Score attack. Much easier that way. And one game of grifball to wrap up the decent challenges. I don’t do the campaign missions unless it is nightfall.

Now I will watch Team Canada play Team Russia in the semis and the World Junior Championships in my home Calgary, Alberta.
