27th January – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

You’ll be pleased to hear I got to 100% on Batman: Arkham City last night. I also did the Perfect Freeflow 2.0 achievement, and Calendar Man’s Storyteller achievement (turn off your internet, keep resetting the in-game clock, speaking to him then leaving the courtroom so it saves, rinse and repeat). It’s still harsh that you get only 5 gamerscore for doing all 13 moves in one combo, especially given the hour of trying it took me. I always end up rushing the last bit and miss doing a counter on someone.

I’m still missing the DLC achievements, but I think it’s time I did a write up on the game, then moved on to the Knights of Amalur: Reckoning demo followed by Saints Row: The Third.

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Blastin’ and Relaxin – Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach- 2343 cR
  2. T-Hug It Out – Kill 7 enemies with close quarters combat in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1400 cR
  3. Fourth Horseman – Earn 5 multikills in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2500 cR
  4. Make a Wish… – Earn a Running Riot in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 5000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Blastin’ and Relaxin – Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach- 2343 cR

If you’re going for just this challenge you’ve got a few choices for doing this really easily and quickly…

  • Forge – make a game with players spawning in one spot and camp it
  • Firefight – Download my Firefight Invincible game type on my File Share, lots of Elites, lots of medals, lots of kills
  • ONI: Sword Base – Use the Target Designator trick (run past everyone at the beginning, grab it, turn around, fire, wait for the killing to stop and restart the checkpoint)
  • Package – There are points where you can get a checkpoint just before a number of Grunts appear in the final battle, so you can gun them down and restart

T-Hug It Out – Kill 7 enemies with close quarters combat in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1400 cR

Close Quarters is a kill using melee, assassination, Shotgun, Energy Sword, Hammer and Golf Club. Infection can be useful, as that’s all CQC. If only there was a game type where you only used hammers and swords though? I say Grifball, as that’s all CQC as well, and easy to get lots and lots of kills. For other mode options, Action Sack’s Halo Ball Extreme is great, and Infection is almost all CQC bar the Pistol. Maps like Sword Base, Countdown and Reflection give you the Sword, Powerhouse sometimes the Hammer and Asylum the Shotgun. I tend to melee a lot anyway so this should come in one game.

Fourth Horseman – Earn 5 multikills in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2500 cR

There are so many options for multikills – Team SWAT and Grifball are probably the best in my opinion. But any mode you’re good at will work – Squad Slayer because people cluster in it. Juggernaut (if you can get it) is really good for it. Don’t forget that multikills stack, so 4 kills in a few seconds counts as the double, triple and over kill, and you’re almost there!

Make a Wish… – Earn a Running Riot in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 5000 cR

15 guys in a row without dying. That’s not to say 15 within a few seconds, but in the span of one ‘life’. Not the easiest, but they’ve upped the credit return which is good. Best advice? Grifball is always a good place if you can get your timing right and watch for betrayals. Juggernaut’s another good one. Infection can be good if you can get a decent team of humans together, but it’s hard to get 15 in the short space of time. In theory you can get this in any mode, it’s just harder to do it without dying in most variants. I expect everyone will have their own thoughts on this so please share in the comments.

    Day of grifball for me

  2. Red Siam says:

Running Riot ones a cow; Can do it in SWAT against lousy opposition. Rumble Pit against lousy opposition and Zombies against Lousy opposition.

Going to take me a while 😦

    • Dogmeat says:

I think I’ll try my hand at some rumble pit for the make a wish challenge. However, I may switch over to BTB after a few attempts. I have had repeated success in keeping a wraith on hemorrhage (sometimes the revenant barring any #@%$ snipers) or the banshee on spire alive long enough to rack up 15 in a single life. As you said, lousy opposition definitely helps. A few quitters on the other team doesn’t hurt either! 😉

Well rats I wanted to be the first to post today

    • Dogmeat says:

Hmm…so you aren’t going to share your thoughts now? Or did you actually have nothing to say?

      • Locklear66 says:

No thoughts I just wanted to be the first to post sumthin

  4. gans42 says:

I love how they increased the amount of multikills to 5, but kept the name as FOURTH horseman. I mean I get the reference, but I feel like the description should match the name.

    • gans42 says:

      Oh and…I’m back!

    • Dogmeat says:

If you think about it, 4 multkills meant 5-8 deaths of your opponents. The fourth horseman is Death. Therefore, 6-10 deaths (5 multikills) still works for the name of the challenge. 🙂

  5. Dogmeat says:

Matthew, congrats on finishing Batman: AC first of all!

I am curious whether are you answering your own question in the t-hug challenge comments with “Grifball”. That gametype IS all hammers and swords. I wasn’t sure if it was the result of copy/paste merging as you mentioned Infection twice.

Merely in the spirit of helping since your thoughts are already so useful to those who visit this site for suggestions:
    – Sword Base, Countdown, and Reflection have both sword and shotgun.
    – Powerhouse has both a hammer and shotgun. I hesitate to mention the shotty because it seems most people don’t know about it…allowing me the chance to snag it first! 😉
    – It is also worth mentioning that each sword swipe counts as 2 close quarters kills. Grabbing the sword would, therefore, be your best bet as you only need to use it 4 times in a match vs. 7 by any other weapon choice (fist, etc.).

    • Locklear66 says:

Ah then me and you would be in compition for it if we were in the same game. Ya know it took me goin into forge and deleten half the level to find that weapon

  6. Hey everyone im back. LoL. How is everyone doing?
