6th February – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

I’m pleased to say I saw the highest scoring match of the weekend in the rugby, which is good given the frozen temperatures!

Saints Row The Third is proving a fun distraction, although I’m sweeping through it pretty quickly (certainly compared with Arkham City) so I’m hoping to be done with it by this time next week. I was getting confused that I had no achievements for the game yet despite being so far through it, then found I’d turned off notifications when playing Rock Band with a friend last week, so I actually had 12 already!

And ‘grats to the Giants for winning the Superbowl, next up is a triple bill against Jack, David and Death Eaters (yes I’m struggling to think of famous ‘giant’ battles, and I suspect saying BFG might lose a few of you).

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Blastin’ and Relaxin’ – Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2343 cR
  2. Support Structure – Earn 30 assists in Firefight Matchmaking – 2250 cR
  3. The Love of the Game – Complete 17 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 3700 cR
  4. Deathless Spear – Complete Tip of the Spear on Legendary without dying – 1800 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Blastin’ and Relaxin’ – Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2343 cR

If you’re going for just this challenge you’ve got a few choices for doing this really easily and quickly…

  • Forge – make a game with players spawning in one spot and camp it
  • Firefight – Download my Firefight Invincible game type on my File Share, lots of Elites, lots of medals, lots of kills
  • ONI: Sword Base – Use the Target Designator trick (run past everyone at the beginning, grab it, turn around, fire, wait for the killing to stop and restart the checkpoint)
  • Package – There are points where you can get a checkpoint just before a number of Grunts appear in the final battle, so you can gun them down and restart

Support Structure – Earn 30 assists in Firefight Matchmaking – 2250 cR

Assists are slightly harder on Firefight I think (you have to deal 40% damage and someone else kills them within 4 seconds). My recommendation is normally to play Courtyard, as you tend to stick together in the entrance to the spawn room so you’re more likely to help assist and get assists from your team mates, whereas you spread out on other maps. We have FF Doubles that will be really good for this – one of you arms the Plasma Pistol to over load, the other takes out the enemy. Particularly the Brutes and Elites are easiest to get this on, and communicate with your team that you’re doing this so they can get the kills and you get the assists.

The Love of the Game – Complete 17 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 3700 cR

Check out this weekly challenge post for lots of detail on getting through games quickly. It might take a bit of time but there’s no limitation on winning or weapons etc. Fastest games are often Infection as they go really quickly I find. Equally, it’s a good chance to try out different variants you might not have played, so jump in BTB, Rumble Pit and Arena to see what they’re like. And of course you can win 3 rounds of Grifball in 30 seconds if you’re just going for the bomb and the score, although you might get avoided for ‘playing the wrong way!’ :D

Deathless Spear – Complete Tip of the Spear on Legendary without dying – 1800 cR

As ever with these challenges check out firstly Tyrant’s guide to completing it Mythic, which will get you through the challenge very easily. Also have a read of the post I did for that challenge here, and finally remember that if you die, very quickly hit Save and Quit. Then Resume Checkpoint, and you’ll be back to your last Checkpoint and the game will remember you hadn’t died. Crack through a very entertaining mission and you’re done.

There’s a little Copy/Paste mixup, the challenge is not to WIN 17 games, (Which would be VERY hard) all you have to do is complete them. But, since that completing 17 games today with school is impossible, it doesn’t really matter to me.

D’oh. I copied this from the last time we had both win 5 and compelte 17 next to each other. I blame, well, being daft for doing it!

“Someone’s got a case of the Moooondays” Ha.

No worries…today’s challenges are less than desireable anyways.

My god these are a pile of horse shit challenges. Last time it was 17 matches completed you got 10,000 cR. I also completed tip of the spear recently on legendary and it took me an hour and a half. It is impossible to not die once in that amount of time on that level. The low payout is not worth it maybe if it was 12000 cR I might waste my time. But for the credits there offering I can double that in one good round of grifball.

Check out that Tyrant guide, or maybe watch some of the speed runs on High Speed Halo for Tip of the Spear to see some of the tricks for that level. Thats one of the easier missions to get through on Legendary thanks to the tricks.
But yeah, you’re right, the payout isn’t worth the effort.

Thanks for the nod to the Giants, Matthew. I was just telling my kids this morning to enjoy it now, because these things don’t happen very often.
