12th February – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Today I am thoroughly recommending The Artist to you all as a tremendously good film to watch. Very post-modern, it almost is to silent films what Scream was to horror films. But a really nice time and very enjoyable.

At the very least, it’s better than I Am Number Four, which I tried to watch in the week, and even playing on double speed I only got half way through before giving up. Absolute trash, Superman wannabe that’s derivative of Highlander 2!

And Highlander 2 is so bad that the other Highlander films pretend it doesn’t exist!!

Today’s challenges are:

  1. One Spartan Army – Kill 150 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 2250 cR
  2. Freelancing – Earn at least 21 kills in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2100 cR
  3. Blast Radius – Kill 40 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking with grenades – 1000 cR
  4. Up Close and Personal – Kill 3 enemies with close quarters combat in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

One Spartan Army – Kill 150 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 2250 cR

You get 120 Grunts in Gruntpocalypse, about 100 enemies in Score Attack, 120-135 in 2X SA, and something like 330 in a Firefight Matchmaking game (although split between up to 4 people). If you need to ‘top up’ your FF kills, jump into a game of Generator Defense or Crashsite and once you have your kills give up the defense.

Freelancing – Earn at least 21 kills in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2100 cR

Back to 100 credits per kill, last time it was 23 kills for 10k in cR! I know a few people will look at this and think it’s not a problem, but for us mere mortals this can be something of a challenge. If you’re good at Rumble Pit, where the total is 25 to win, you can get this. Other good options are Multi-Team Battle generally, and specifically the objective based games where kill volume is not the target, so you can keep taking guys down without the game ending. Particularly Crazy King and Oddball I’m thinking. Grifball’s also a good one at times, as is Invasion if you’re human and have a good group/defensible position.

Blast Radius – Kill 40 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking with grenades – 1000 cR

Several strategies for you here – Gruntpocalypse on somewhere Corvette and throw grenades at the Grunt spawn rooms (particularly those to the left and right of the ramps opposite your spawn room), then when you get grenades from the Grunts you kill use them when they come into the pinch point corridors. Or play Firefight on Courtyard, run to the left out of the spawn room and from the terrace you can usually get up to 5 or 6 dudes with grenades when they’re dropped off. Or play Nadefight where you get lots of grenades when you spawn. Or play 2X Score Attack and use grenades to bomb the spawn/dropship points when a load of guys are dropped off.

Up Close and Personal – Kill 3 enemies with close quarters combat in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1000 cR

Close Quarters Combat is essentially melee, assassination, sword, hammer or shotgun kills. Grifball is 100% melee and easy to get lots of kills when you get your timing right. Infection can be really good, and it does appear that sword kills count double for the sword and the pummel.
