14th February – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary Valentine Edition

Happy Valentine’s Day folks! I hope you get to spoil someone today, even if it’s just yourself (chocolates are dead cheap this time of year!). I do buy into the spirit of the day, it’s always good to do something lovely for the special person in your life so that they can brag about it and feel loved.

Plus… now only a month until Valentine’s day for guys. And I’m now hearing about April 14th being instigated as the day for girls specifically!!

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 150 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 5343 cR
  2. A Friend in Need – Earn 10 assists in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR
  3. L.D. Exodus – Complete Exodus, without dying, on Legendary with Mythic, Thunderstorm, Tilt, and Tough Luck on – 5343 cR
  4. Close Talking – Earn 20 kills with close quarters combat in multiplayer Matchmaking 3000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 150 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 5343 cR

You’re better off doing the other challenges first then mopping this up if you’ve not done it yet. Best options for this specifically:

  • Forge – make a game with players spawning in one spot and camp it
  • Firefight – Download my Firefight Invincible game type on my File Share, lots of Elites, lots of medals, lots of kills (plus ‘cheevos if you’ve not done the Firefight ones)
  • ONI: Sword Base – Use the Target Designator trick (run past everyone at the beginning, grab it, turn around, fire, wait for the killing to stop and restart the checkpoint)
  • Package – There are points where you can get a checkpoint just before a number of Grunts appear in the final battle, so you can gun them down and restart

A Friend in Need – Earn 10 assists in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR

It’s got to be Firefight Arcade or Doubles for this (you can’t get an assist in SA with no other players!). Courtyard all the way, especially on the Elites and Brutes. If you do 40% or more damage and someone else kills the enemy in 4 seconds you get an assist. So when you start seeing Elites and Brutes start hammering them (particularly using an overcharged Plasma Pistol on Elites) when there are other people clustered around you.

L.D. Exodus – Complete Exodus, without dying, on Legendary with Mythic, Thunderstorm, Tilt, and Tough Luck on – 5343 cR

This shouldn’t be too bad, especially if you’ve done the LASO on Exodus previously. I’m not going to post it all here, but your two things to do are to follow Tyrant’s guide to playing it in Mythic, and read through the commentary and particularly comments for the weekly challenge to get further tips.

Close Talking – Earn 20 kills with close quarters combat in multiplayer Matchmaking 3000 cR

Close Quarters Combat is melee, beat down, assassination, Sword, Hammer, Golf Club and Shotgun. It’s actually my normal way of playing to shoot then melee so it should be pretty quick. Jump into Grifball and have some fun bludgeoning the other team to rack up these kills, or Infection with everything bar the pistol. Halo Ball Extreme can be good for this, but for every HBX with a high kill volume you might get plain old HB which has a 0 kill volume.

A friend in need – Firefight Arcade and load out with the sniper rifle. I get tons of assists this way by firing into groups of covvies as the other players are jet packing in with their fuel rod cannons.

  2. Quinn says:

It seems like 343 can’t get their rewards straight. First 2343 cr for 180 kills, then 5343 for 150?

Anyway, I’ll definitely get 150 kills today, if not the other challenges, since I’ll be working on the weekly.

i was thinking the same thing. it’s like they’re assigning credit value at random without any consideration for the ease/difficulty factor. very frustrating!

  3. Peggy Peggy says:

Grenade Launcher (EMP Blast) every time for FF assists!

  4. J.D@wg says:

    Men’s valentine day… WHAT?!?!

    • Matthew Vose says:

14th March – Steak and a blowjob day.

      I endorse this concept.

      Thoroughly.

      14th April – C&C day for girls.

Hint – the first C is Cake.

  5. Braythor says:

Got the assist in arcade by tactically shooting the elites with my sniper riflr to strip shields, then leaving them for the others to finish off with the FRGs; got 13 in the one game.

I also noticed that the close quarters challenge was highlighted in the challenge menu during the FF game, and one of the other players was clearly going for melee kills, but this was right at the end so I never got a chance to check if it could indeed be done on firefight.

  6. Dan says:

Multiplayer not firefight, he can get 100 melee’s and he won’t be getting it. Set up some nice firefight challenges to work on today, 1000 kills and 500 headshots. It helps my small arms and longshot comm, then the last 500 for riflin through.

The keep on giving ld exodus, its getting boring cmon! I’ve done this twice now I think in the last month. Why is killing 150 for 5k cr but the LD is the same? It should be much more like LD solace was – 8500.

  7. Dan says:

Last time I did exodus LD I did it without dying, no save and quits! I used tyrants legendary guide with exceptions like using the warthog with rocket marines in the last segment. Way easier than going for the wraith to clear the area.

  8. HFerrari says:

Hello everyone. I think I’m missing something. I ran through the campaign mission today with every skull needed and upon my first death I got a “challenge failed” icon. Is this a bug or is there something in the instructions I am missing? Thank you all for your time.

    • HFerrari says:

Sorry I didn’t read through all the way lol. I could have sworn at 6 AM it said nothing about dying.

  9. SkyrinGans says:

I’d be happy to help anybody out with the weekly challenge this week. Gamertag: Skyrin Gans
