17th February – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

I still haven’t had a chance to start The Old Republic yet. I have friends visiting this weekend, so probably Sunday after they go I will settle in for my first taste of the game. Having never played an MMO before it’s fairly exciting, although I’m getting worried how much of a time sink it’s going to be, especially with Syndicate, Mass Effect 3 and Journey (all three of my ‘most anticipated of 2012’ games) coming out within the next month.

Today’s challenges are:

  1. More than a Handful – Kill 125 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2500 cR
  2. Go Right Ahead Folks – Earn a First Strike in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2000 cR
  3. Make a Wish… – Earn a Running Riot in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 5343 cR
  4. Who’s the Big Winner? – Win 10 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 5343 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

More than a Handful – Kill 125 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2500 cR

Multi Team Battle or Grifball are the best ways to get lots and lots of kills, you tend to get more than any other modes. If you play Crazy King or Oddball you can get even more as some people who would shoot you go for the objective, and you can take them out. If you can make an area in an Infection game defensible as a human you can rack up kills quickly.

Go Right Ahead Folks – Earn a First Strike in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2000 cR

Team SWAT, Grifball or Infection are good game types to get this in. Infection & Grifball particularly because you get a First Strike in every round, so it’s giving you a good chance to pick up the medal. In Team SWAT, Asylum, Countdown or Sword Base are good for picking it up. On Asylum, zoom your DMR through the central arena and watch for the opposite team coming down their ramp. Countdown you can look through the central area and see the opposite team there, and on Sword Base go to the top of the green lift if you’re red, as blues usually come up the lift first. If you’re blue then go to the ramp up from your starting point as you can often snipe someone who doesn’t expect it.

Make a Wish… – Earn a Running Riot in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 5343 cR

15 guys in a row without dying. That’s not to say 15 within a few seconds, but in the span of one ‘life’. Not the easiest, but they’ve upped the credit return which is good. Best advice? Grifball is always a good place if you can get your timing right and watch for betrayals. Juggernaut’s another good one. Infection can be good if you can get a decent team of humans together, but it’s hard to get 15 in the short space of time. In theory you can get this in any mode, it’s just harder to do it without dying in most variants. I expect everyone will have their own thoughts on this so please share in the comments.

Who’s the Big Winner? – Win 10 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 5343 cR

This is just a little bit of a grind. Go for Team Slayer/SWAT/Snipers/Objective/Grifball/Action Sack game types so you only have two teams playing and a better chance of winning. I’d also recommend finding some guys you play well with and sticking with them. You’ll get lots of credits from the games and then a tasty tasty bonus on winning your 12th. That’s all worth the gravy in my book.

Good Job! Keep up the good work!

  2. For the Riot, simply go into Invasion with a party (doesn’t have to be a good party) and vote for Invasion Slayer on Hemmorhage. Tell your friends to let you get the Sniper rifle, then just find a spot and begin sniping. Another choice is BTB.

    • DaRoflBandit says:

Uh, you only get 12 bullets with the sniper rifle….. meaning you would have to get more ammo (which would risk you dieing). and you have to pretty much be really good to not use up all of your sniper ammo quickly by missing… best way to get this challenge is to hope that you get paired up against terrible people with something that you can use that gets you kills easily, or play in a game mode with easy kills.

      • Yeah, but if you have people who are anywhere near decent in your party it should not mean death to go down from sniper rock to the base to get more ammo. I’ve done it 4 times in a game without a shot even fired at me because my teammates keep them at their spawn points. And it’s not hard at all to headshot an elite with a sword running across a field at the same pace no matter how far away you are.

  3. Andrew says:

    It’s only 10 not 12 today (^O^)/

  4. Locklear66 says:

I May achualy get these done today. I’m at my inlaws and my sister inlaw loves to play so il use that as an excuse to Play

  5. Paul says:

Go Right Ahead Folks – Team SWAT on The Cage. If you spawn at the tower, head towards the man cannon, keeping an eye on the platform where players land when using it. There’s always someone dumb enough to poke their head over the parapet. Often get First Strike there. Although I’ll be doing Grifball for all of these along with custom challenges 400 kills and 700 medals

  6. JThomas says:

These challenges don’t excite me very much…seem like nothing more than a headache. I’ll play but won’t be pushing too hard for these.
