22nd February – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Thanks to everyone signing up on the Facebook page. So close to 1000 people on there now, can we do a push and get over that line? Just because it’d be cool! 🙂

If any of you have heard the rubbish going on about Jennifer Hepler (a Bioware writer) then I’m sure you’ll agree with me it’s disgusting and has no place in the industry, let alone society.

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2000 cR
  2. Katanarama – Kill 1 enemies using the Energy Sword in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR
  3. Linked Up with Bungie.net – Link your gamertag with Bungie.net and play a game in Halo: Reach Matchmaking – 3000 cR
  4. Who’s the Big Winner? – Win 12 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 10,000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2000 cR

You’re better off doing the other challenges first then mopping this up if you’ve not done it yet. Best options for this specifically:

  • Forge – make a game with players spawning in one spot and camp it
  • Firefight – Download my Firefight Invincible game type on my File Share, lots of Elites, lots of medals, lots of kills (plus ‘cheevos if you’ve not done the Firefight ones)
  • ONI: Sword Base – Use the Target Designator trick (run past everyone at the beginning, grab it, turn around, fire, wait for the killing to stop and restart the checkpoint)
  • Package – There are points where you can get a checkpoint just before a number of Grunts appear in the final battle, so you can gun them down and restart

Katanarama – Kill 1 enemies using the Energy Sword in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR

The easiest way I see of getting this is playing score attack or 2x Score Attack and getting to the Elites at the end. One of them carries a sword (more than one in 2x), and will of course rush you. Once you’ve taken him out, grab the sword then go after his buddies. Fiesta Fight is your alternative, fun, option, where you may get given the sword at some point if you die and respawn.

Linked Up with Bungie.net – Link your gamertag with Bungie.net and play a game in Halo: Reach Matchmaking – 3000 cR

It’s such an easy 3k to get though, you don’t even need to actually play, just enter the Matchmaking lobby and you’re there, on Firefight, Score Attack, any Matchmaking type. If you’re not already signed up, go to Bungie.net on your computer, and follow the instructions when you click ‘Sign Up’ in the top right, using the email you use for your XBL account to link the two. 3000 credits for about 15 seconds work! A good way of ensuring you’ve got it linked is by going to the Game Settings and turning on a nameplate, then when that name plate appears on your gamertag in game you know it’s worked.

Who’s the Big Winner? – Win 12 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 10,000 cR

This is just a little bit of a grind. Go for Team Slayer/SWAT/Snipers/Objective/Grifball/Action Sack game types so you only have two teams playing and a better chance of winning. I’d also recommend finding some guys you play well with and sticking with them. You’ll get lots of credits from the games and then a tasty tasty 10k bonus on winning your 12th. That’s all worth the gravy in my book.

Wait, what’s this about Jennifer Hepler and Bioware?

    • Matthew Vose says:

Some pathetic excuses for people laying into her, pretty viciously, for pretty much no good reason. To the extent they drove her off Twitter within about a day.

      • Quillian86 says:

Yeah, I quickly typed in that question from my cell phone when I looked at your blog on the way to work this morning. It was only after that when I realize that I could look up the answer for myself, so I did a quick online search and found an article at Kotaku explaining the entire mess, and then I had to start work.

But now that I’m finally back home after work and getting something to eat for dinner (I live in the EST time zone, just in case you were wondering), I finally get to make out a quick response to all this…

        What. The. HELL!?
All this outrage over some interview which was made back in 2006, like 5-6 YEARS AGO? What, did all these people figure, “Hey, we didn’t make a stink about it back then, so let’s do it now”?
Oh, and speaking of which, I saw how she fired back at them: I won’t quote it here, but it was a real scorcher of a retort about how she had two things which they (her attackers) couldn’t get either of. Ouch.

Oh, and Matthew, thanks for responding! Let me just say how much I like and appreciate your blog, and keep up the great work!

Can anybuddy tell me why they dont give u the points for tthe win 12 games?

  3. brxoverdose says:

The easiest way to get a sword kill is firefight arcade you get the option to start with a sword for a loadout from the start of the game just grab a quick kill with it and pick up a better weapon.

  4. brxoverdose says:

Also for the comment about the credits you will not see the 10k credits in the carnage report after the 12th win they will be added after the game as you are in the lobby dont worry they are there you just dont see them added as soon as the game ends because the chalenge isnt involving doing anything in the game just like the linked bungie tag challenge they are added as you are in the lobby after the 12th win

    • fishingdude64 says:

Not for me i never get the points for challenges like that just like the weekly never got the points for that

      • Matthew Vose says:

Assuming your username is your gamertag, you’ve not completed the Weekly challenge, so far you only have 5 wins. What brx says is correct, you don’t always see this allocated in the credit summary because of the way the tally can be updated.

      • fishingdude64 says:

Dont really care about the weekly im just saying everytime this challenge comes up or complete any number of games it never gives them to me and my buddies are having the same problems. I have went back to the lobby after i get those challenges done and i still have the same amount of points.

      • Matthew Vose says:

Well if you’re not going to believe us here then perhaps 343 are the people to contact about it??

      • The Bill TM says:

I think your problem is that you say “complete any number of games it never gives them to me “. Read the wording again, this challange is to ‘Win’ not ‘Complete’ the game. You or your team needs to win the games for it to count, not just play through it.

      • SamCiphus says:

You just don’t GET stuff do you fishingdude…

  5. Dogmeat says:

What 343i SHOULD have done is manipulated the 4th daily challenge for every day this week except Firefight Thursday. We already have to win 11 games per day to wrap up the weekly challenge on time. Give us the “Who’s the Big Winner?” for 6 days as well! That would have made the weekly worth 60,000 more credits. If you play only Team Slayer this week, you stand to gain another 30-50k in cr per day for the super jackpot! Then add custom challenges that take into consideration you will be playing a lot of mp matchmaking (wins, medals, and kills). When all is said and done, you stand to gain tens of thousands more cr every day.

  6. Paul says:

This could be the last time we get Linked Up With Bungie.Net. I’ll miss the easy credits.

    • Paul says:

343 could replace it with “Oh, Check Me Out – log into Waypoint in less than 30 minutes – 20,000cR”

Actually, that should be a weekly challenge…

    • Paul says:

And “Clip It. Bin It. – Make a clip from your Local files and delete it – 0cR” as there is no file share on Waypoint (until maybe the summer)

  7. what is your gamertag?

  8. Micah (SpartanM914) says:

Looks like Facebook is at 1001.

    • Locklear66 says:

I am proud to say I helped make that possible. Oh hey I don’t know if y’all are aware that on YouTube some halo fans are tryen to make a halo helljumper series. They got two episodes up and they are really good I think. Just go to YouTube and type in halo:helljumper and it should pop up

  9. André says:

I plan to 3/4 complete before the challenges change. And yes I have RDC on Facebook.
