28th February – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

I’ve made it to Dromund Kaas on SW:TOR. A lot of time is running around doing stuff for the people you meet, getting tasty XP. My companion Vette kind of likes me, but I’m also a hard ass Sith Warrior (and now also Marauder) with two lightsabers, so it’s kind of hard to get someone to like you all the time!

Anyway, today’s challenges are:

  1. Light Fare – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 3000 cR
  2. Weapon Swap – Earn 10 sprees in a Firefight Matchmaking game on Heroic or harder – 2000 cR
  3. Cannon Fodder – Kill 75 infantry-class foes in the Campaign today – 1100 cR
  4. Participation Counts – Complete 4 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2400 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Light Fare – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 3000 cR

If you want to do this specifically (as you’ll get it just playing for the other challenges) then jump into something on Score Attack, maybe Gruntpocalypse, 2X Score Attack or Fiesta Attack to get it done quickly and rack up the kills.

Weapon Swap – Earn 10 sprees in a Firefight Matchmaking game on Heroic or harder – 2000 cR

Sprees are hard for weapons, especially in Firefight. I reckon Gruntpocalypse or some other easy Score Attack variant, get the 50 kills medal, then die and do another 50. You get 120 kills in Gruntpoc so it’s an easy way to do it. Alternatively use the Shotgun for three, sticky grenades, Swords, Hammers and anything else you can that gives a spree (this list on Halopedia shows all Spree medals available) to top up the killing sprees as well.

Cannon Fodder – Kill 75 infantry-class foes in the Campaign today – 1100 cR

Winter Contingency should give you over 50, assuming you clear out all areas when in the truck, and take out the Grunts when defending marines, and die having taken out all enemies in the courtyard at the start of Rally Point Bravo and do it twice (or just keep restarting that section). I think Tip of the Spear will give you enough infantry enemies through the whole mission, but it is a long mission that has a lot of potential for death and delay. Your other option is either the checkpoint respawn in the end of The Package, and use the Target Designator on ONI Sword Base – run straight to where it is, ignoring all enemies, grab it, turn around and blast the grunts. Then respawn to the checkpoint or restart mission to do it again.

Participation Counts – Complete 4 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2400 cR

Complete 4 games. Don’t drop out. Get to the end of each. Just play through them. Doesn’t matter if you win or lose. Sorry, I can’t drag out this explanation any further. Is there a way of doing this quickly? Infection is a very fast game type so you’ll probably get it done in 10 minutes using that, or Grifball if you want to just go after the bomb score.

Weapon Swap – I only ever seem to get this for killing sprees – do the weapons sprees actually count?

    • Myst says:

yes, they do. Arcadefight is a good choice, you can get sniper and shotgun sprees pretty easily.

      • André says:

I just get one killing spree then die and repeat. works every time 🙂

  2. Anthony says:

Man, whomever posted that comment regarding the custom challenges in Gruntpocalypse, you rock!

I literally earned over 50K credits after only (4) games of Score Attack yesterday!!!

Easiest money that I ever made. May the Halo Gods smile down upon you.

I will now return to my majestic steed where I will ride through the valleys of Hemdale shooting flaming arrows at sword bitches and tea-baggers, lol.

Wow…I totally missed the memo on the Custom Challenge bonus. I was having a good time double-dipping on yesterdays’ challenges with my own customs. I earned about 40k in the hour or so it took me to complete the 4 daily challenges. I guess it could have been even more if I had specified Grunts in my kills.

  3. Dogmeat says:

Yup! Since I try not to die (which means a max of only 6 killing sprees), I usually get 3 sniper sprees and work on sticking 5 covies for the 10th spree of the match. Sometimes, I’ll grab a sword or a hammer off an elite/brute for an easy 3 sprees. If heretics show up in the third round, my chances of surviving are low…meaning my killing spree count resets…meaning no worries on reaching the 10. 🙂

  4. Paul says:

Ah, I see. So for Gruntpoc (where weapon types are very limited) that’s 6 killing sprees and then make up the other 4 with stickys and either sniper or laser depending on what gets dropped. Can you confirm that the kills don’t have to be consecutive with the weapon (the wiki reference is a bit mixed on this)

    • Dogmeat says:

A weapon spree in firefight is 5 kills with a hammer, sword, shotgun, sniper, and plasma grenade sticks (might be missing one or two) in the same life. They don’t have to be consecutive kills in a row with the same weapon. You just have to not die until you have accumulated 5 kills with a certain type of weapon. So stick a couple grunts, shoot some others to get more grenades, stick a couple more, etc. The spartan laser will only be good for 1 spree IF you can take out more than one grunt with one of your 4 total shots. Personally, I think you would be better off dying after 50 kills if you’re trying this challenge with Gruntpocalypse.

      • Paul says:

Add beam rifle and vehicle to the list. Just spent a happy few minutes driving in circles around Unearthed in the rockethog for a Splatter spree – had already done the challenge though so can’t confirm that would count (and SK below had more than 10 so still not confirmed). The forklift is not so good for this….

The laser and sniper work nicely on Courtyard if you can get a line of grunts coming up the ramp at the end of each round.

  5. Sou1Ko11ektor says:

Weapon swap – I scored 15 sprees in score attack on beachhead. I racked up 8 sniper spree medals on top of the 6 killing spree medals. I added a splatter spree at the end by “accident” while finishing off the round. This would make for a good optional recommendation in the future.

Appreciate all your incite into getting these challenges done expeditiously. Tnx SK

  6. Rossco says:

I usually get an assist spree also whyll doing this challenge.
