1st March – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

So we’re now 1/6th of the way through 2012. And it’s only Thursday!

I came close to buying a PS3 this morning after a great deal online, but no stock was left when I got there. I’m trying to hold off whilst I have so many games to play, but I want to play Journey so much when it’s out in a couple of weeks.

Today’s challenges are:

  1. One Spartan Army – Kill 250 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 3500 cR
  2. Flat Tire – Kill 10 enemy vehicles in Firefight Matchmaking – 2343 cR
  3. Demon – Kill 30 Elites in Firefight Matchmaking – 2400 cR
  4. A Simple Spree – Earn any spree in Firefight Matchmaking – 2000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

One Spartan Army – Kill 250 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 3500 cR

You get 120 Grunts in Gruntpocalypse, about 100 enemies in Score Attack, 120-135 in 2X SA, and something like 330 in a Firefight Matchmaking game (although split between up to 4 people). If you need to ‘top up’ your FF kills, jump into a game of Generator Defense or Crashsite and once you have your kills give up the defense.

Flat Tire – Kill 10 enemy vehicles in Firefight Matchmaking – 2343 cR

Key to point out is you must destroy the vehicle, not the driver first. You’re better off using something explosive (Spartan Laser, Plasma Launcher). The Anniversary Firefight map, Installation 04, seems pretty good for Banshees, they appear pretty often. The best options outside of that are below.

  • Score Attack – On Holdout you get Banshees in the rounds. If you can keep a Grunt alive at the end of a wave for a long time you have a higher chance of getting them to come out again and again. They don’t tend to appear when it’s raining
  • Firefight Doubles – Especially Beachhead, where vehicles are usually dropped at the beginning and end of each round, you can decide who gets to take them out and work on it (plus great for working on assists)

Demon – Kill 30 Elites in Firefight Matchmaking – 2400 cR

A lot of the unusual solo Firefight MM variants give around 25 Elites these days – 2X, Fiesta etc. Firefight Doubles might well be a good way to go here if you pick Arcadefight on a map you both like, although I’m not sure if that’ll give you 100 Elites to split.

A Simple Spree – Earn any spree in Firefight Matchmaking – 2000 cR

Sprees cover a lot of options, 5 kills with Shotguns, Sniper Rifle, Plasma Grenade sticks, Swords… and so on. Frankly, 10 kills with anything gets you a spree, so just do that and you’ve got a very easy 2000 credits, perhaps a quick visit to Crashsite/Generator Defence just to do it in a minute or two.

Arcade Fight is actually probably best for ALL of these. You could EASILY get 3 of these done first try, all 4 if your lucky.

    • DaRoflBandit says:

10 vehicles will never spawn in one match, the most I’ve heard of is 6 per match, and that’s with banshees.

      • Actually, on Firefight Doubles Arcadefight on Beachhead, you can get up to 12 vehicles every game (each phantom brings one at the start and end of each round) although any more than 7 or 8 is very, very rare.

  2. Jimmy says:

Here is a good glitch: Have signed in your main profile. Like mine THERABIDLADYBUG then have a Guest signed in. Then start the arcade fight game. When you get everyone in the lobby choosing the map, get the guest to hit the xbox button and hit x. Then you will be alone!

    • DaRoflBandit says:

Um, that might work in FF doubles, but in FF arcade there are 4 people, so you would need more controllers (3 of them) and there would be shorter map rotation, which means that there would be less maps that appear compared to FF doubles.

    • Dogmeat says:

Yes. That’s a great glitch…if you want to be banned! Why not just bring up Firefight Doubles and leave your guest account signed in? You will have more than 3 choices for maps that way as well. Just make sure you get 30+ kills with the guest account (probably wouldn’t hurt to get a kill or two with it every few minutes as well) so it doesn’t appear to be sitting idle, and the rest of the enemies are all yours! I prefer having a real person in Firefight Doubles as they help get through more rounds and draw the attention away from me (to work on that Perfectionist commendation)! 🙂

      • DaRoflBandit says:

Were you talking to me, or Jimmy? It’s kinda hard to tell.

      • Dogmeat says:

It was for Jimmy. I was writing that response, got sidetracked, and finished it without refreshing the page first. I didn’t realize you had also replied to him.

  3. Peggy Peggy says:

I’ve been here a long time and dogmeat (insert prophet) ur spot on man……idling, boosting etc. is deplorable, I don’t care if u get banned. If ur gonna cheat do it ino Vegas not while I’m playing Halo. Rant over. see u next year x

  4. Paul says:

Seems to be a problem with the Waypoint servers – I completed the weekly yesterday but it’s showing as 0/10 in the game. halo.xbox.com isn’t available either.

Good old Bungie shows I’ve completed it though.

Need to see if it’ll give me any challenges I do today…

  5. André says:

Anyone else have grunt specific custom challenges not counting? Only medals

  6. Dogmeat says:

So I don’t want to steal any of Matthew’s thunder for possibly tomorrow, but did anyone read the 3/1 Halo Bulletin in regards to the Match updates taking effect 3/6? Particularly of interest to me were:
    – Spartans will no longer get evade as an armor ability except in grifball. Elites will still have evade at their disposal.
    – Bleedthrough functionality will be removed from all TU playlists! That was the one beef I had with the TU all along.
    – BTB Heavies will be maps with vehicles and heavy weapons galore with bonus points to foot soldiers for kills while both teams work towards a score of 200.
    – Having a “heat” level of 3/3 will make your player display fire (presumably like when you are the juggernaut).

    😀

    • DaRoflBandit says:

1st, Do zombies still get evade in Infection, 2nd, the main problem I personally had with the TU was that melee was WAY overpowered, having it stay in and bleedthrough go makes the TU worse, 3rd, what is heat level, and how do you get it? 4th, where did you get this information?

      • Dogmeat says:

        1. Don’t know since the article didn’t mention Infection. If they DID get rid of it, that would mean Alpha Zombies for all games, I guess.
        2. Bleedthrough is what let the melee take you out before your shields fully popped. A few assault rifle rounds and a punch sealed your fate. Without bleedthrough, you need to pop the shield first, returning to a two-melee-combo before taking down your opponent, for example.
        3. I forgot to mention that the fire was added to people playing Team Hotshot in Action Sack. It helps to know of they are uber powerful as a result of having their heat level maxed out.
        4. Here is a link . It is from 343i’s Halo website that has lots of various Halo-related topics.
