Halo Reach Weekly Challenge & Commentary – w/c 5th March

This week’s challenge is below, click Read More to view the commentary:

Legendary Friends – Complete any Campaign mission on Legendary in co-op mode – 10,000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

A very old weekly challenge that we’ve seen as a daily challenge once too. No skulls, no specification of which mission to do this on, and no definition of how many people, just in co-op. Which means it’s time for another Nightfall run…

As a guide to Nightfall speed run I’ve picked this video off Youtube randomly, but there are hundreds like it. In fact we have further options and details on the time we did it in LASO on this Weekly Challenge page and comments. There are other levels you may be more familiar with, but honestly, you can do this in 5-6 minutes with minimal stress.

One key point is when you do it in Co-op, you can run through together right up to the valley between the pump station and the pylon. At that point pick JUST ONE person to go through and take out the guys on the bridge, then use the forklift to get through the gate and run the rest. If you both go it will massively increase the chances of you being fired upon and the enemies spawning behind the gate.

I like to take 3 friends into this weekly or daily and we all race to the forklift. First one in the forklift gets to do glitch.

Weird though how yesterday L.D on nightfall with 4 skulls on only 5343cR. They musta got lazy for this weeks challenge and randomly picked it.

Not complaining should be an easy 5 mins and a fun race. Seeing as I’m almost inheritor cR worth isn’t that important to me nemore.

This has got to be the biggest joke of a weekly I’ve ever seen in H:R. There are daily challenges that pay out the same…very disappointed to say the least, ugh.

Ugh to you. At most, it’s 15 minutes of play time. For those of us who have done it before, it’s only 3-6 minutes. That’s about 2,000 cr a minute. That’s about as good as it gets.

      • FireySplork says:

uve done it in 3 min, my record is 4:06

      • JThomas says:

Ugh to you. I know it’s easy because I’ve done it countless times over and over. It’s just disappointing that a weekly challenge is that little amount of credits. It would have been much more worthwhile and enlightening if the payout was the normal 20 or 25k.

Obviously I’m looking forward to the credits but it’s a let down when the payout of a daily is the same as a weekly…weak sauce.

Since I have no luck with the forklift, I think I’ll just do a speedrun on Winter Contingency with a spare controller hooked up. I don’t think there are any places in the level where both players need to act at once (save maybe getting both inside the exterior door of the comm station) or for that matter any reason that Player 2 needs to remain alive for longer than 5 seconds at a time. Any “gotchas” I’m missing for that level?

    • FireySplork says:

For the nightfall run, try to align the side of the forklift with the very middle of the gate where the two doors meet. this should allow you to exit your forklift through the door. Also, when doing this on co-op, make sure that your second player, and/or third, etc. do not cross the bridge. If they do, you to spawn back where they are and all the enemies get spawned on the other side of the gates

    • XtheallmightyxX says:

I’ve considered not doing nightfall since nightfall is quite difficult to pass with two separate controllers. Winter contigency i’d say is the best mostly due to the fact that you don’t really need the second controller to be active (save when you have to get in the comms room) all you do there is just get your player in there, hide in the back part of the room, pick up the other controller and get him inside and wait. The rest of the enemies can be taken out easily with a plasma pistol and a magnum.

    Matthew,

Hey- Just wanted to thank you for putting out this content EVERY DAY! I found your site about a month ago and now i check it every morning.

  5. brxoverdose says:

Ok i already did this one this morning before i left for work of course i did nightfall but you dont have to touch the second controller just let him die took me 4 min even for 10k credits. And like someone said above the trick is lining up the forklift in the middle of the gates and repetively getting in and out of it. Ive found it to work alot sooner if you hold left on the dpad like your forcing your way through but that just may be me. And im fine with getting 10k credits now the weekly is done and i can play things i want instead of doing certain things all week trying to get the weekly.

  6. Dan says:

Nice another weekly challenge. I did this with my brother this morning, he doesn’t care for campaign all that much so it was nice to do. Did Tip of the spear on legendary, it was way more fun than boring ass nightfall. Hopefully another firefight or campaign challenge next week.

  7. Ryan says:

I can do this without live right? As long as I have a second controller?

  8. FMyA! says:

Aaaargh! I just went in to Co-Op Matchmaking Campaign and it paired me up with one other player who quit before the mission selection was complete. I thought “cool! now I get to choose Winter Contingency Legendary and do the speed run and be done with it.” Finished it easily, (no deaths, not that it’s required), but *no challenge complete award*. I guess it’s smart enough to figure out that I wasn’t ~actually~ playing with anyone by the time the game got started. F!
