7th March – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

This video moved me this morning, and does a good job of illustrating how to join the campaign against one of the worst criminals currently operating. Please take 30 minutes from your day to watch this video and if you’re moved to try to help make a change then use the links on the video.

I’ll post this again next Monday so that more people see it (with the weekly commentary that’s my most popular day).

It’s important.

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2000 cR
  2. Supporting Role – Earn 20 assists in Firefight Matchmaking – 1500 cR
  3. Iron Will – Complete a Campaign mission alone on Heroic or harder with the Iron Skull on – 2500 cR
  4. Not as Clumsy or Random… – Earn 5 kills with precision weapons in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2000 cR

You’re better off doing the other challenges first then mopping this up if you’ve not done it yet. Best options for this specifically:

  • Forge – make a game with players spawning in one spot and camp it
  • Firefight – Download my Firefight Invincible game type on my File Share, lots of Elites, lots of medals, lots of kills (plus ‘cheevos if you’ve not done the Firefight ones)
  • ONI: Sword Base – Use the Target Designator trick (run past everyone at the beginning, grab it, turn around, fire, wait for the killing to stop and restart the checkpoint)
  • Package – There are points where you can get a checkpoint just before a number of Grunts appear in the final battle, so you can gun them down and restart

Supporting Role – Earn 20 assists in Firefight Matchmaking – 1500 cR

Any of the Matchmaking variants will work well here, particularly Rocketfight or Sniperfight. If you can buddy up to do this (ie Firefight Doubles) you’ll get it quicker rather than just playing and hoping, plus you can reciprocate to the other person too. Don’t forget an assist is 40% or more damage to an enemy that is killed within 4 seconds by someone else.

Iron Will – Complete a Campaign mission alone on Heroic or harder with the Iron Skull on – 2500 cR

I’m giving exactly the same advice as every optional Campaign mission challenge – run Nightfall, get this done in 10 minutes, tops. As a guide to Nightfall speed run I’ve picked this video off Youtube randomly, but there are hundreds like it. In fact we have further options and details on the time we did it in LASO on this Weekly Challenge page and comments. There are other levels you may be more familiar with, but honestly, you can do this in 5-6 minutes with minimal stress.

Not as Clumsy or Random… – Earn 5 kills with precision weapons in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2000 cR

Jump into a Team SWAT match, take out some guys and it’s an easy top up of 2000 credits. Precision weapons are the DMR, Focus Rifle, Needle Rifle and Sniper Rifle.

Go into firefight doubles with a buddy pick arcade fight on any map but corvette works best you pick grenade launcher load out have them pick rocket launch as the enemies run toward you pop them with a grenade launcher shot takes their shields down and tell your buddy to fire right after you get 4 or 5 assist at a time ive gotten as many as 80 in 1 game before. Or if your alone just run around the randoms on your team shooting grenade launcher the same area they are killing enemies and youll pick up assist pretty easily as well. I did nightfall for the campaign one in 4 min and taregt locator for the 100 kills. You can get get 5 precision weapon kills in almost any game you play but your almost guranteed it in swat.

Can I ask a probably stupid question?

My husband was playing last night (firefight) and noticed in the upper left corner of the screen it was displaying the gamertag of a newly added friend with a number (5 digit) next to it. For the life of me I had no idea what it meant! Maybe it’s been there before, but last night was the first time we noticed it.

Can someone clue me in? Thanks!

Oh and today’s challenges aren’t so challenging. The assist one could be annoying to get unless you’re playing with a friend.

    • JH says:

It’s his friend’s score on that level/game variant. If he beats it, it’ll show the next highest score and so on.

My favorite way to get Firefight assists is to rock Corvette with a friend. Just keep at a safe distance, take a few potshots, and then send in Guerrilla Children to finish the job. Clean, efficient and remarkably safe.

For you–not for the kids. But the ones who _do_ make it, they get ice cream. Win/Win.

  4. Dan says:

^^ I have almost no idea what you’re going on about, aside from firefight.

Although tomorrow is firefight Thursday I may have to skip my usual 20-30k custom challenges on top of the normal challenges for btb heavies. For those who haven’t played it yet, it’s like btb but there are vehicles EVERYWHERE, and rockets, frgs, lasers, hammers. It’s the kind of halo you play when you don’t feel like pacing your shots and just want all out destruction!

    • DaRoflBandit says:

I just got a Untouchable and Dreamcrusher on Tempest in BTB Heavies. I got a hammer, went to their base, hammered anyone who got close, and just kept killing everyone with the DMR. since I was in their base, over and over again there would be people to shoot, and the people I hammered dropped DMR ammo so I just kept killing them, and they stood in really exposed areas, they never expected fire from their base. 85% bloom also really helped me. I died when I ran out of Hammer ammo, and alot of angry reds came after me… needless to say, they defiantly were terrible players.
