9th March – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Mass Effect 3 has arrived. This should be a good weekend, including a Broncos match (rugby) tomorrow and out in the evening for dinner and drinks.

And for UK residents check out Game and Gamestation’s sale. There are some pretty good deals, including the pre-owned consoles with money off. Wii for £40 and DS for £20 anyone??

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Blastin’ and Relaxin’ – Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2343 cR
  2. Throwing Fireballs – Kill 7 enemies with grenades in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1400 cR
  3. Twin Trips – Earn 2 Triple Kills in the same match in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR
  4. Participation Counts – Complete 4 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2400 cR

Blastin’ and Relaxin’ – Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2343 cR

If you’re going for just this challenge you’ve got a few choices for doing this really easily and quickly…

  • Forge – make a game with players spawning in one spot and camp it
  • Firefight – Download my Firefight Invincible game type on my File Share, lots of Elites, lots of medals, lots of kills
  • ONI: Sword Base – Use the Target Designator trick (run past everyone at the beginning, grab it, turn around, fire, wait for the killing to stop and restart the checkpoint)
  • Package – There are points where you can get a checkpoint just before a number of Grunts appear in the final battle, so you can gun them down and restart

Throwing Fireballs – Kill 7 enemies with grenades in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1400 cR

As always I think the objective games in Multi-Team battle are good for grenade kills, especially Crazy King as you can chuck grenades in the ‘hill’ to try and get more than one guy. The Elite variant games can be good with sticky grenades, but Armour Lock is so common now it’s not worth it. I’m thinking perhaps Invasion too, since that’s also not based on kill volumes and you can throw grenades into the target areas when the opposition are unlocking something. Squad Slayer on Zealot can be a grenade fest, Action Sack’s DinoBlasters is excellent for grenades since no one looks for them, Slayer Pro type games can be good. Team Doubles King of the Hill’s variants too.

Twin Trips – Earn 2 Triple Kills in the same match in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR

Team SWAT is pretty good if you can get a team taken out in one (I enjoy Asylum and Sword Base for this). Equally, Multi Team’s a pretty good bet if you can come into a lot of people taking each other on – the objective modes of Oddball and Crazy King might do you well here, longer matches and a game type that forces people to group more. And of course there’s Grifball, which is just superb for getting your multikills in.

Participation Counts – Complete 4 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2400 cR

Complete the games. Don’t drop out. Get to the end of each. Just play through them. Doesn’t matter if you win or lose. Sorry, I can’t drag out this explanation any further. Is there a way of doing this quickly? Infection is a very fast game type so you’ll probably get it done in 10 minutes using that, or Grifball if you want to just go after the bomb score.

    I got 2 tripples in 1 game of griffball easily and i got 7 grenade kills in a game of headhunter in multiteam. 1 lucky grenade in the scoring zone got me an overkill and 4 of the 7 i finished the match with 44 kills going positive 27. Target locator to get the 180 enemies quickly and just play a few games and all the challenges are fairly easy. Good luck!

    Matthew, may I just point out that Squad Slayer was replaced with Super Slayer this past Tuesday (3/6)? Team Slayer is only vanilla Reach now while Super Slayer is only TU Reach.

    Speaking of the title update, you also might want to suggest people play elite variant matches that are under TU rules. If you get stuck before you activate armor lock, you’re still stuck! Kaboom!

    I haven’t tried the new BTB Heavies gametype, but with all of the vehicles and heavy weapons, I have to think twin triple kills would be pretty straightforward. Can anyone confirm?

      Yeah Dogmeat your right! If you’ve had enough of Grifball then jumping in a Scorpion/Wraith should get you twin trips pretty easy

    Dogmeat my gt is the same as my name on here brx0verdose with a zero for the 0. I usually play at night when my son goes to bed or early in the morning for a few minutes before work but yea look up the game stats if you want should be my last game played

    Can somebody explain what the TU in front of a game type means? To me they play the same.

      TU has 85% bloom, meaning less bloom, and modified armor lock and active camo. How they are modified, I don’t know yet.

      Title Update – No sword block, armor lock doesn’t save you anymore from getting stuck with a plasma grenade if you activate the ability after the fact (also doesn’t last as long and weapons fire shortens the time it lasts as well), active camo doesn’t last as long when standing still, bleedthrough was removed just this past Tuesday from the list of things changed in the TU (meant that you could suffer a fatal punch or headshot even though you had a little shield left), reticule bloom reduced to either 85% or 0% (referred to as ZB meaning zero bloom in one specific playlist), and you can play co-op campaign and firefight matchmaking without a HDD.

        So that’s why I got through an armor locker. I was on btb and stuck someone with the plasma launcher and he locked, then died anyways! Hahahaha, so now it’s the way it should be – not completely invulnerable anymore. Sweet.

    I couldn’t play matchmaking today. yesterday the games were so bad I quit afew and when I signed on today it gave me the warning notice for quitting too many games. The first and only game I was in today I lagged out of and got banned. At least I won the game 😛
