10th March – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Well, Mass Effect 3 is pretty impressive. It looks good, it’s been engaging over the first couple of hours, my previous decisions have already made definite impacts on the galaxy, and it is indeed better with Kinect.

I’m going to enjoy this game.

Lots of chat about bans in Reach being unjustified, I’d recommend reading up on the halo.xbox.com forums for more info if you’re being affected.

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Covenant-cide – Kill 120 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 3200 cR
  2. Showtime – Earn 5 assists in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1250 cR
  3. T-Hug It Out – Kill 4 enemies with close quarters combat in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1000 cR
  4. Credits for Completion – Complete 6 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1300 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Covenant-cide – Kill 120 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 3200 cR

You could do this in one game of Gruntpocalypse, 2X Score Attack or some of the other variants. 2X is good because you’re likely to get slightly more than 120 so it takes account of TKs from the Covvies.

Showtime – Earn 5 assists in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1250 cR

Rumble Pit is good for assists since it’s just bullets and fists flying everywhere! As usual with assists you can do well in a Team game type if you pair up with someone, tell them that’s what you want to do and join forces, using Sniper Rifles, Plasma Pistol overcharges and the like to do max damage to someone, and your partner finishing them off. Hockey is also very good, just run around gunning people and tell your team when their shields pop they’re a one hit kill with the golf club. Don’t forget an assist is classed as doing 40% or more damage to someone with another playing killing them within 4 seconds.

T-Hug It Out – Kill 4 enemies with close quarters combat in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1000 cR

Close Quarters is a kill using melee, assassination, Shotgun, Energy Sword, Hammer and Golf Club. Infection can be useful, as that’s all CQC. If only there was a game type where you only used hammers and swords though? I say Grifball, as that’s all CQC as well, and easy to get lots and lots of kills. For other mode options, Action Sack’s Halo Ball Extreme is great, and Infection is almost all CQC bar the Pistol. Maps like Sword Base, Countdown and Reflection give you the Sword, Powerhouse sometimes the Hammer and Asylum the Shotgun. I tend to melee a lot anyway so this should come in one game.

Credits for Completion – Complete 6 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1300 cR

This is just completion, not wins, so easy to do. Grifball and score with the bomb really quickly is best really.

Unbanned 😀 but the 5x Grunt bonus has ended 😦

Matthew, would it be possible to have a general overview of Custom Challenges as a link in the menu? We could then suggest combos to complement the Daily/Weekly Challenges.

Time to earn some credits! hopefully the next ban won’t be 1 month because of this glitch!

      • André says:

It goes: 24hr, 2week, 1month, reset. I’ve had 24hr before, guest account! I learn from that mistake not to use idle guests.

I been thinking about getting Mass Effect 3 but it’s just too expensive and I have not played the first games.

buy mass effect 2 used from gamestop. Great game. I plan on waiting until the price drops even though it’s driving me nuts not playing now.

      • André says:

I will do that or buy the first game which I hear is awesome as well.

      • Matthew Vose says:

Definitely get the second one and play it through since it’s such a good game, but I’d say get the first one too. The inventory and combat are a bit clunky, but it’s a great story and some of the decisions you make are hugely important in the third one (seriously, so many decisions have had an impact and I’m only about 10 hours in!).

But yeah give it some time, work through the others and get ME3 when it’s a reasonable price. With games there is no need to buy things on day of release unless you really really want it, there are hundreds of older, cheaper games that are worth picking up for less than half the release price! I’ve randomly been playing through Braid again lately. 5 hours or so of gameplay, but absolutely riveting.
