11th March – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

The rugby league team I have a season ticket for this year, the London Broncos, won their first match of the season yesterday. And pretty conclusively, 42-16 against Castleford Tigers. Next weekend they’re away against my actual team, Wigan Warriors, so I’ll be at that match and supporting both teams meaning it’ll probably be one of the most enjoyable all season.

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Light Fire – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 3000 cR
  2. There Are Many Like… – Kill 50 enemies with precision weapons in the Campaign today – 1500 cR
  3. Demon – Kill 40 Elites in Firefight Matchmaking – 2800 cR
  4. Oops! All Kills – Earn 15 Multikills in multiplayer Matchmaking – 3000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Light Fire – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 3000 cR

If you want to do this specifically (as you’ll get it just playing for the other challenges) then jump into something on Score Attack, maybe Gruntpocalypse, 2X Score Attack or Fiesta Attack to get it done quickly and rack up the kills.

There Are Many Like… – Kill 50 enemies with precision weapons in the Campaign today – 1500 cR

Precision weapons are the DMR, Sniper Rifle, Focus Rifle and Needle Rifle (anything that can headshot except the Pistol, which is small arms, although you don’t need to headshot for the challenge). Nightfall is good, because you start with loads and loads of ammo for the Sniper Rifle, and you can shoot the first Elite in the head, restart checkpoint and do it over and over (a little dull but quick and easy). Winter Contingency from Rally Point Bravo which has DMRs in the base and lots of guys dropped off to shoot at you. I think ONI Sword Base also starts off with the DMR as well, and a series of Grunts running towards you quickly.

Demon – Kill 40 Elites in Firefight Matchmaking – 2800 cR

A lot of the unusual solo Firefight MM variants give around 25 Elites these days – 2X, Fiesta etc. Firefight Doubles might well be a good way to go here if you pick Arcadefight on a map you both like, although I’m not sure if that’ll give you enough Elites to split.

Oops! All Kills – Earn 15 Multikills in multiplayer Matchmaking – 3000 cR

Grifball is again one of your top options here, one game should get it pretty quickly. These will stack, so an Overkill (4 people) counts as 3 multikills. The objective variants are helpful because you can aim for people who are going for the objective (ie in the hill in Crazy King) where a natural firefight usually opens up.

I probably don’t know this since I’m a American… but what is rugby? I hear you talk about it all of the time in your daily commentary’s.

I’m also an American and as far as I can gather its like hard core football. Like no pads and the point of the game it get points but that’s all I know about it.

    • Matthew Vose says:

The aim of rugby is to get the ball and score a try worth four points, which is done by putting the ball down in the opposition’s goal area (end zone). You also then get a kick at goal (called a conversion) which gets you two points. Hard core football is a fairly good description, no pads, brutal tackling and hits.

Key rules in the game are that you can’t throw the ball forward, so you’re always moving forward with it and passing backwards, and in rugby league if your team is tackled with the ball 6 times in a row you have to give the ball to the opposition, so after the 5th tackle you generally kick downfield to make up more metres. Oh and after each tackle the defending team have to retreat 10 metres and play restarts.

If you’re interested in seeing a quick set of highlights from a good match follow this link. It’s a very high speed, high intensity sport.

Thanks for the info on rugby. Is there any way you can put a like button on this site like Facebook. There has been several times I would haved liked to like a post but I can’t. That would be cool if you could.

There should already be a like button at the bottom of each post, as well as facebook, twitter, google+, email and reddit sharing buttons.
