14th March – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Well I tore myself away from ME3 long enough to set up a blog discussing my daily goings on. If you want to read much more in depth detail about the events as my characters experience them go read Mass Effect Musings. I’d love to hear what happened to each of you who are also playing the game right now in the same missions and situations.

Today’s challenges are:

  1. More Than a Handful – Kill 25 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR
  2. Survivor – Earn 5 Sprees in a Firefight Matchmaking game – 2000 cR
  3. Pod Kettle Black – Kill 15 Elite Drop Pods in The Long Night of Solace – 2343 cR
  4. The Dream Shake – Earn 4 Double Kills in the same match in multiplayer Matchmaking – 4000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

More Than a Handful – Kill 25 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR

Multi Team Battle or Grifball are the best ways to get lots and lots of kills, you tend to get more than any other modes. If you play Crazy King or Oddball you can get even more as some people who would shoot you go for the objective, and you can take them out. If you can make an area in an Infection game defensible as a human you can rack up kills quickly.

Survivor – Earn 5 Sprees in a Firefight Matchmaking game – 2000 cR

You get 120 kills in Gruntpoc so it’s an easy way to do it. If you can get kills using weapons (ie 5 grenade sticks, a shotgun, sniper rifle etc) then you get nearer the total – use Score Attack to get a range of weapons. Beachhead is quite good as you can use the vehicles to get more sprees – and now on Firefight Arcade you’ve got a good chance of using a variety of weapons, lots of killing sprees and grenades and the like. I like hitting up Gruntpoc then getting the 5 killing sprees.

Pod Kettle Black – Kill 15 Elite Drop Pods in The Long Night of Solace – 2343 cR

This is NOT trying to destroy drop pods in the ground based combat. This is when you play Long Night of Solace from Rally Point Alpha and you’re in the space combat section. After the first section defending the station, you take on a Covvie Corvette. That Corvette launches fighters at you. At the same time, it also launches 6 pods (2 groups of 3) from the bottom of the ship towards the planet. You can see them streak away. You can’t target them with missiles, and you have to be close to shoot them, but those are the Elite Drop Pods. It registers your kills after each wave have disappeared (entered Reach’s atmosphere). So go into that bit of the mission and fly beneath the corvette taking out all the pods you can and you’ll get it easy.

The Dream Shake – Earn 4 Double Kills in the same match in multiplayer Matchmaking – 4000 cR

4 isn’t too bad these days, Team SWAT works well, but Grifball probably works better for this one too. This is of course 4 Double Kills, not multikills, so getting a Triple Kill won’t count as two towards this.

  1. Paul says:

Pod Kettle Black – if you do it on Normal you can fly right beneath the ship and run into the Pods as they drop without dying – easier than trying to shoot them. Will try on Easy next time to see if they still count.

    • Josh says:

I believe achievements cannot be completed on Easy and I think this also applies to challenges. I could be wrong mind you, I usually do the campaign on Heroic.
