18th March – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

I’m posting this from Starbucks in Wigan centre. Today we have the Wigan Warriors, whom I grew up supporting, versus the London Broncos, the team I have a season ticket for. People keep asking me if I’m going to have divided loyalties, but actually this should be the best match ever for me, I can support both teams and cheer every good thing that happens.

I’m still wearing my London shirt though, because this might be the one season I get to wear it here.

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2000 cR
  2. Un, Deux, Trois – Win 3 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2900 cR
  3. A Simple Spree – Earn any spree in Firefight Matchmaking – 2000 cR
  4. The Little Guys – Kill 75 Grunts in Campaign today on Normal or harder – 1000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2000 cR

You’re better off doing the other challenges first then mopping this up if you’ve not done it yet. Best options for this specifically:

  • Forge – make a game with players spawning in one spot and camp it
  • Firefight – Download my Firefight Invincible game type on my File Share, lots of Elites, lots of medals, lots of kills (plus ‘cheevos if you’ve not done the Firefight ones)
  • ONI: Sword Base – Use the Target Designator trick (run past everyone at the beginning, grab it, turn around, fire, wait for the killing to stop and restart the checkpoint)
  • Package – There are points where you can get a checkpoint just before a number of Grunts appear in the final battle, so you can gun them down and restart

Un, Deux, Trois – Win 3 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2900 cR

If you play a Team Slayer/SWAT/Grifball/Snipers/Action Sack etc you’ll get this easier, since only two teams gives you a higher chance of winning than the 6 person multi team (for instance). Make sure you read this Weekly Challenge commentary for more hints on doing it quick.

A Simple Spree – Earn any spree in Firefight Matchmaking – 2000 cR

Sprees cover a lot of options, 5 kills with Shotguns, Sniper Rifle, Plasma Grenade sticks, Swords… and so on. Frankly, 10 kills with anything gets you a spree, so just do that and you’ve got a very easy 2000 credits, perhaps a quick visit to Crashsite/Generator Defence just to do it in a minute or two.

The Little Guys – Kill 75 Grunts in Campaign today on Normal or harder – 1000 cR

Winter Contingency, Exodus or The Package are excellent for Grunts.  The opening of ONI Sword Base has one useful trick – go straight to the Target Designator, turn around and blast some Grunts, then reset to checkpoint. It’s a quick way of doing it, although I prefer playing through levels to up various commendations. Ryan suggested something similar on The Package, throwing a grenade just before the checkpoint so that every time you reset it goes off and takes out a few Grunts. ONI: Sword Base can also be good by just taking out the few who are in front of you at the start then restarting the mission, but if you go for the TD you get lots of big commendations too.

It was a great match, and some excellent stuff from both sides. I did end up supporting London more than Wigan but that was just because I was surrounded by Wigan fans XD
