22nd March – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

I got the galactic readiness in ME3 up to 100% last night. So tonight I’ll get my MP character to level 20, make them a war asset into single player and then go for finishing the campaign. I’m really enjoying the multiplayer, it’s a good mixture of Halo’s Firefight, Gears of War’s Horde and the MP perks/upgrades system of CoD type games. Plus it ties into the single player mission which is pretty nice.

I am however missing the stats review you get in Halo. After a game you can’t review your number of kills etc (unless you got a commendation for something), and you can’t store them online. It’s stopping me becoming obsessive about it which might be a good thing though!

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Blastin’ and Relaxin’ – Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2343 cR
  2. Take a Dip – Kill 150 enemies on Waterfront in Firefight Matchmaking – 2500 cR
  3. Demon – Kill 30 Elites in Firefight Matchmaking – 2400 cR
  4. Flat Tire – Kill 10 enemy vehicles in Firefight Matchmaking – 2343 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Blastin’ and Relaxin’ – Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2343 cR

If you’re going for just this challenge you’ve got a few choices for doing this really easily and quickly…

  • Forge – make a game with players spawning in one spot and camp it
  • Firefight – Download my Firefight Invincible game type on my File Share, lots of Elites, lots of medals, lots of kills
  • ONI: Sword Base – Use the Target Designator trick (run past everyone at the beginning, grab it, turn around, fire, wait for the killing to stop and restart the checkpoint)
  • Package – There are points where you can get a checkpoint just before a number of Grunts appear in the final battle, so you can gun them down and restart

Take a Dip – Kill 150 enemies on Waterfront in Firefight Matchmaking – 2500 cR

Several options, two rounds through anything in Score Attack will see you get this quickly. Or Firefight Doubles in ArcadeFight should get you both somewhere close to the total if not there, or FFA itself although with 4 people you probably won’t get the full kill volume. Beware the Suicide Grunts (there should be a spoof series of pictures based on the Suicide Girls), and the snipers on the cliff. With this and the next challenge I’d just recommend picking whatever you see first on the map required.

Demon – Kill 30 Elites in Firefight Matchmaking – 2400 cR

A lot of the unusual solo Firefight MM variants give around 25 Elites these days – 2X, Fiesta etc. Firefight Doubles might well be a good way to go here if you pick Arcadefight on a map you both like, although I’m not sure if that’ll give you enough Elites to split.

Flat Tire – Kill 10 enemy vehicles in Firefight Matchmaking – 2343 cR

Key to point out is you must destroy the vehicle, not the driver first. You’re better off using something explosive (Spartan Laser, Plasma Launcher). The Anniversary Firefight map, Installation 04, seems pretty good for Banshees, they appear pretty often. The best options outside of that are below.

  • Score Attack – On Holdout you get Banshees in the rounds. If you can keep a Grunt alive at the end of a wave for a long time you have a higher chance of getting them to come out again and again. They don’t tend to appear when it’s raining
  • Firefight Doubles – Especially Beachhead, where vehicles are usually dropped at the beginning and end of each round, you can decide who gets to take them out and work on it (plus great for working on assists)

For Firefight challenges, I fire up a second controller and head off to FF Doubles. No need to ‘compete’ for vehicle kills, and if you set up the second controller to autofire, you can get assists as well. The smaller maps are better suited to this game type (Corvette, Courtyard and Holdout).

Don’t forget to setup custom challenges as well for an extra few Cr. 785 kills or medals are worth 10K each.

    Enjoy.

  2. Metal Zangief says:

Thanks for reminding us about the custom challenges. By the way how do you know if theres a custom challenge bonus like the Grunt bonus a week or two ago? Where does one even find that info?

  3. Jeff says:

login to your xbox.com account and go to halo.xbox.com, select challenges and create your own.

Available for FF, MP and Campaign. There are maximums for each, 10K, 30K and 5K per challenge respectively though the payouts are linear, so don’t bother going higher than you have time to complete comfortably.

  4. Metal Zangief says:

The Custom Challenge BONUS not how to create challenges. I know how to create challenges . I am wondering about the Weekly Custom Challenge bonus. Like this week I heard its Kills with Needle Rifle in Campaign and Custom games. Where does one find THAT info?

  5. Jeff says:

Sorry MZ, I misunderstood. I’ve never heard of those, so I don’t know.

Did some searching and got the following at: http://halo.xbox.com/blogs/Headlines/post/2012/03/21/The-Halo-Bulletin-32112.aspx

    Custom Challenge of the Week

The Needler Rifle is an extremely satisfying weapon to wield while traversing the virtual battlefield. There’s just something inherently rewarding about shooting explosive pink shards directly into your enemy’s head. That’s why kills attained with this particular weapon will be rewarded with a higher than average payout for the next several days.

So, from now until next Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time, setting up a Custom Challenge with the Needler Rifle as the type of weapon will result in ten times the usual multiplier. Please note this only applies to Campaign and Custom games (including Custom Firefight). It’s also worth noting that despite the rumor that one is sufficient, I recommend going for as many as your multi-fingered appendages can handle.

And yes, that’s what I said.

    =====================

    Learned something new 🙂

    Thanks
