Not Lough, High – Earn a score of 250,000 in any mission in the Reach Campaign – 30,000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Woah. It was 80k in points last time we saw this. Well, it’s a bit of a grind but it’s pretty easy. My advice is to go into New Alexandria to do this. Put on lots and lots of skulls to up your multiplier to 10x or more, especially in Legendary. You can then keep flying around and taking on Banshees and Phantoms (and any ground troops you stray near) till you get your total. If your Falcon gets trashed from too many dogfights land and then blow it up so you’re rewarded with a shiny new one – I think you can land anywhere not necessarily your next target. It should be that simple.

Other options are playing through any mission with a shed load of skulls on at a higher difficulty and just play well (easy right?). Or from Pillar of Autumn Rally Point Bravo with at least 5 skulls on (Normal difficulty). Play through as normal then when you jump in the MAC Cannon at the end shoot every single Phantom and Banshee you see – you’ll get a few thousand points for each and quickly rock up a lot – 250k may or may not be achievable just with that section though.

There are probably one or two other areas you can rack up big points, feel free to post in the comments your ideas.

  1. My Little Housing Blog says:

Great! I will take this one easily later today.

  2. pischto says:

Oh god why.. I heard Long Night Of Solace is good?

    • Deadly Bagel says:

Tried that on Heroic with half the skulls, got 100k so would be possible on legendary with tilt and mythic and all but probably not worth it.

  3. we did do this last time on ONI Sword Base. the infinite Phantom spawns at the anti-air battery. total grind but completely doable.

    • My Little Housing Blog says:

Sword Base is good. Takes some time, but if you have nothing better to do… 🙂

    • Turbo says:

I’m not familiar with this one. Can you explain?

      • clutch1965 says:

play on legendary and pick what skulls you are comfortable with. The hardest part is running along the right side all the way to the target locator alive. pick up armor lock and a plasma pistol. target one wraith ( with the target locator ) and make sure not to kill the other one at the same time. after taking out the elite and grunts jack the remaining wraith. as the wraith attempt to ram you acivate armor lock to disable, or if using sprint use plasma pistol to disable then board the wraith and beat the snot out of the driver. from there just drive to the right and blast away. unlimited drop ships will spawn, it takes about 10 hits from the wraith to destroy if i
        remember right.

      • cluth1965, can you link to the game details on Bungie.net from when you did it last time?

        here’s mine:
        http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/gamestats.aspx?gameid=936692449&player=ikyouCrow

i had done it on Heroic. i’m curious how many Phantoms it takes to hit the target on Legendary. i had to kill 28 before moving hitting the switch and finishing the level.

    • clutch1965 says:

matthew I attempted to look up the stats on bungie but had difficulty finding the number of phantom kills. my gamer tag is clutch1965 and I did ONI for the weekly the last time or before that when campain score for week was the challenge, not sure what date that was. I attempted it on legendary today with lots of skulls and rage quit. playing on legendary no skulls only netted about 1500 per drop ship and needing 250,000 I opted for new alexandia. happy gaming.

      • clutch1965 says:

I looked thru the games played again after checking the dates of the challenges thru the link
at the top of this page. when i did that weekly challenge it looks like it was done on normal.
250,000 divided by 1500 is 166. playing on normal with skulls on I was able to complete it in
about an hour. today new alexandria on legendary took about an hour also.

  4. MissedTheApex says:

Just a nitpick on the cut-and-pasted text: It wasn’t 80k last time, it was 250k. It was probably 80k the time before that, though.

And last time, I did it just as the post describes: New Alexandria, Legendary, and all skulls on except Iron and Black Eye. Iron is off because the risk of dying after 200k points and losing them all isn’t worth the extra multiplier. And Black Eye is off because when you’re flying, there’s no one around to melee to get your shield back. It’s a quick ticket to an early death.

But with those settings, I was able to grind out 250k points in something like 50 minutes, if I remember correctly.

  5. Nathan says:

Would it work if I started on the last Rally Point on New Alexandria? Would I still have an infinite amount of banshees and phantoms to kill? Because this way I wouldn’t have to be on foot doing the actual mission stuff as much.

    • Rajp13 says:

Never actually do any mission stuff just fly around and take out banshees and Phantoms. Then when your done just save and quit.

  6. DaRoflBandit says:

There is no Rally Point Bravo on New Alexandria…

  7. Captain Obvious says:

okay so i gotta say one thing: do it in co-op by yourself. set the points to team, have your character hide under the platform you start on, then control player 2. if done right you should also get a point for the flawless cowboy commendation.

  8. Captain Obvious says:

    and the demon commendation.

    • Dogmeat says:

Getting flawless cowboy and demon requires you to actually finish the level (no easy feat with all those skulls turned on). I believe your main character will also get zipped over as you enter buildings, making it likely that AI are nearby that will ruin your flawless cowboy chances. There are better difficulties and levels to get your commendations up.

  9. RustyDoomFork says:

This one is way easy on ONI: Sword Base. Set it on Legendary and turn a few skulls on, then commandeer a wraith just past the gate, and go to the area with the anti-air gun. The phantom will keep coming back until you activate the anti-air gun, so kill everyone nearby and just blast away at the phantoms until you reach 250k.

  10. Rossco says:

I have done this challenge on oni, poa and new alexandria. New alexandria is by far the easiest and quickest cause u start right away killing banshees and phantoms. You get checkpoints the whole way through the grind so if u die then the point loss isn’t so severe.

    • JThomas says:

Couldn’t agree more…New Alex is easy for me and I think takes the least amount of time/stress if done correctly compared to the others.

    • Dogmeat says:

If New Alexandria is easiest and quickest, then why did I complete this weekly challenge on POA in 6 minutes? 🙂

      Check it out!

Granted, this game required about 20-25 minutes of setup the last time this weekly challenge showed up. You get up the mass driver early with a concussion rifle. You can’t have Cowbell turned on. Leave Iron and Black Eye off as well. Hit a checkpoint up top. Then be sure to save and quit so that you can copy your gamesave elsewhere for the purpose of reusing it later. Alternatively, you can select the cloud as the location for your save spot (currently where mine is) while you use the HDD for other campaign-related endeavors/challenges.

      • Dogmeat says:

My apologies. Cowbell can stay on. Tilt HAS to be on or you will kill yourself with the concussion rifle blast combination with initial grenade. I kept Blind off so that I could see my HUD and how much ammo I was packing.

  11. thejaydub says:

You are right, but I think there was a daily somewhere between the last 250k and this one, that was for only 80k.

So, I think you’re both kind of right.

  12. I can think of 3 ways of doing this.

    1. Sword Base, shoot every phantom that comes by the AA gun once with a DMR and get the points when it’s destroyed…boring.

    2. Lone Wolf, All gold skulls on, easy. Headshot all the grunts and when you start getting all zealot elites, start assassinating them. 15 minutes and done, also it’s pretty fun sidestepping sword elites and assassinating them!

    http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/gamestats.aspx?gameid=936528892&player=MisguidedDrake4

    3. New Alexandria, as many skulls as you’re comfortable with, as high difficulty as you’re comfortable with. Fly around and shoot banshees. Could be kind of fun and relaxing.
TIP: Sign in a guest and start this game co-op, then sign out your guest right after it starts. In co-op, a second falcon is dropped off at the starting landing pad, and it’s equipped with grenade launcher turrets! Sign your guest out to get the full screen back, get your marines into those turrets. More explosive, more fun.

    • Meddling Monk says:

Your option 1 doesn’t work; once you activate the AA gun, no more Phantoms will spawn. You have to destroy them all (except the last one) yourself without activating the gun; I like to use the Wraith, but you can also use the Warthog gun (if you can put up with Kat driving around at random in the process!).

      • Dogmeat says:

I also don’t think you can get credit for completing a challenge when the difficulty level is on easy. If so, then Option 2 is out as well.

      • Matt says:

Not positive but I think when he typed “easy” he meant that its a simple challenge to accomplish with those settings. I could be wrong though

  13. Cole says:

If you do this on new-alex, and are playing co-op with a partner, do you both need to get 250,000 points? Or can you just set the scoring to team and with combined points, reach 250,000 points? And both get the weekly challenge completed?

    • Captain Obvious says:

      combined points.

      • G0GI187 says:

Tried this last night in co-op. Combined points do not work. Each individual must complete the 250k

      • raj says:

Yeah I did this last night, and it has to be individually, because if you have it on legendary and like 7 seven skulls on, you’ll get up to 250 in like 15 minutes combined, but it needs to be individually, otherwise I think it would make it too easy if it were combined… ya know?

  14. Jetpack333 says:

send me an invite if you need help getting the weekly. got it in 30 minutes.
    GT- Jetpack333 ( #1 in action sack)

  15. Dan says:

I did it on Lone Wolf in 20 minutes. Simply put all you have to do is have all skulls on on easy mode and melee everything. Once Elite Generals start coming out each one is worth 2k points. On easy mode with black eye, just run around, keep the drop shield with you in case of emergency. Stick with a concussion rifle and an energy sword. Go for sword elites first, even though on easy mode they don’t even take out your shields with one swipe, if you ignore them they can drain your shields fast and you don’t want to die with 200000 points. This is an easy way to get the bob on this level too.

  16. Francis says:

Just got this on New Alexandria as the article suggests. Took me about 30 minutes. Just make sure you take out all the shade turrets! They can catch you by surprise and deal lots of damage.

  17. I’m not overly good at halo I will admit, but I can do this challenge in under 20 minutes starting at the alpha rally point on The Pillar of Autumn. Just bypass all the normal battles and such and get up to the MAC cannon before the storyline wants you to get there. On Legendary with half the skulls on it’s about 7,000 points per phantom and they just appear in a regular pattern and never shoot at you. It’s crazy easy.

  18. Dan says:

Tried to do this with my brother today. I had already gotten it on mondey but he hadn’t yet. Set it to easy on lone wolf with team scoring on ASO. EASO Lone Wolf. We both died after about 20 minutes with 100000 points, so we loaded up ONI and spent half an hour blowing up phantoms while I shot kat over and over. Boring stuff. Should have just done New Alexandria. Does this particular challenge work with team scoring on?
