27th March – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Now British Summer Time has kicked in I actually get to leave work when the sun is shining, which is pretty nice. We’re having an early summer at the moment here in the UK, although that probably implies we won’t actually get a normal summer when it comes to July!

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Covenant-cide – Kill 120 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 3200 cR
  2. Going Outpost-al – Kill 125 enemies on Outpost on Heroic in Firefight Matchmaking – 1100 cR
  3. Leadership Element – Kill 45 enemy leaders in the Campaign today – 2200 cR
  4. Participation Counts – Complete 4 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2400 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Covenant-cide – Kill 120 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 3200 cR

You could do this in one game of Gruntpocalypse, 2X Score Attack or some of the other variants. 2X is good because you’re likely to get slightly more than 120 so it takes account of TKs from the Covvies.

Going Outpost-al – Kill 125 enemies on Outpost on Heroic in Firefight Matchmaking – 1100 cR

125 is just evil, as you get 120 in a Gruntpocalypse type game, so this leaves you just short when trying via Score Attack. If you can get Firefight Arcade with only one or two players you should make this, but perhaps the best advice I can give is to play Outpost on Score Attack, get as many as you can, then get a Generator Defense type of game going to get your last few you might need.

Leadership Element – Kill 45 enemy leaders in the Campaign today – 2200 cR

Nightfall, the first dude with his back to you, either snipe him, beat him down or assassinate him, then restart the checkpoint again and again to get it quick. Other options are the Package or Pillar of Autumn levels (which have loads of leaders), the Target Designator on ONI: Sword Base since you get one or two in that beam and can reset the checkpoint just as the bombs fall.

Participation Counts – Complete 4 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2400 cR

Complete the games. Don’t drop out. Get to the end of each. Just play through them. Doesn’t matter if you win or lose. Sorry, I can’t drag out this explanation any further. Is there a way of doing this quickly? Infection is a very fast game type so you’ll probably get it done in 10 minutes using that, or Grifball if you want to just go after the bomb score.

Nice and easy…just the way I like it.

  2. Jer says:

For the leaders just turn the thunderstorm skull on and do it in any mission.

  3. AmadeusMop says:

2X Score Attack gives you 125, so just play a game on 2X on Outpost for a quick 4300 cR.

*a game OF 2X on outpost

    • MissedTheApex says:

I almost never get the full amount on any FF game type, because there are usually a couple cases of friendly fire from the AI that rob me of the total. I don’t know how many times I’ve ended up with 118 kills in Gruntpocalypse or something like that. It’s worse on the small maps like Corvette. Maybe Outpost wouldn’t be too bad…but if you do a lot of fighting in the interior of the AA guns, it could cause that problem.

    • Meddling Monk says:

Unfortunately, 2X Score Attack gives exactly 120 enemies, not 125. There could be up to 4 extra ‘enemies’ on Outpost (2x Phantom guns, 2x Ghosts if you’re really lucky), but since Outpost has no drop pods, it’s impossible to get 125 in a single game.

Firefight doubles pick arcade fight either team up with a friend or sign in a guest. Either way you get to shuffle through all the maps so just pick outpost and there are around 400 enemies in an arcade gametype if you last all the way through the bonus round which is more than enough for 2 people. I did the target locator for the leaders in campaign took 2 minutes.

    • Metal Zangief says:

Ya and you can get banned for ghosting a guest, hope your not doing that

      • Locklear66 says:

Witch by the way is cheating

      • JThomas says:

Exactly…I’m glad that people are spreading the word and finally realizing how cheap and amateur that method is!!!
