2nd April – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

If you didn’t see it on Saturday, check out this post of Halo multiplayer stats that Bungie created as their sign off from hosting any Halo content. Enjoy!

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Covenant-cide – Kill 120 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 3200 cR
  2. Triple Thrill – Earn any 3 Sprees in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2000 cR
  3. Nature vs Nurture – Kill 15 Moa in Winter Contingency on Normal or harder – 4000 cR
  4. Be Vigilant – Score 60,000 points in any Campaign mission without dying – 1500 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Covenant-cide – Kill 120 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 3200 cR

You could do this in one game of Gruntpocalypse, 2X Score Attack or some of the other variants. 2X is good because you’re likely to get slightly more than 120 so it takes account of TKs from the Covvies.

Triple Thrill – Earn any 3 Sprees in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2000 cR

This should apply to any spree, not just kills. So you can get sprees using:

  • Hammer
  • Shotgun
  • Sniper Rifle
  • Plasma Grenade sticks
  • Sword
  • Vehicles (two here – kills in vehicle where you do the killing, and kills as driver with passenger killing)
  • Spartan Laser
  • Assists
  • Some for specific variants of Juggernaut, Invasion and Infection

See the list on Halopedia for everything. What’s easiest to get? Well trying to get 5 kills with a Hammer, Sword or Shotgun nets you two straight away. Through in some Grenade sticks and you’ll be there. Vehicles might be another easy way to do it in Invasion or the new BTB Heavies, team up with someone so you can work on your assist levels too. Grifball of course is a good one if you can get your Hammering eye in and take out a load of guys in a row. And although I’ve not tried it everyone says that Infection is really good if you can Shotgun 5 zombies that’s your three sprees done (shotgun, zombie and killing).

Nature vs Nurture – Kill 15 Moa in Winter Contingency on Normal or harder – 4000 cR

The Moa are scattered through the first two sections of Winter Contingency, one melee and they drop like a bag of stones. Last time we had this challenge we found you can even do it in Nightfall, go to Rally Point Alpha, run through the valley and you come across a group of four with a checkpoint before them. On Winter Contingency, two run around the corner when starting the mission so you can always just restart that, but I think you may have to sit through the Falcon flight to do so unless you can trigger a checkpoint. There are some more when you first fight Elites, and then more as you drive the truck around the place. You can run them over but it’s harder, I suggest jumping out and shooting or punching them. I reckon there are 15 in the level but a quick two runs would easily get this. I bet somewhere there’s a useful checkpoint just before a group of them too.

Be Vigilant – Score 60,000 points in any Campaign mission without dying – 1500 cR

To up the points you get the two steps are to turn on as many skulls as you’re comfortable with and play in a higher difficulty setting. This is up to you, of course putting on skulls makes death more likely so it’s a fine line depending on your ability. The best places to score points in Campaign missions are Rally Point Alpha in Long Night of Solace, New Alexandria, or Rally Point Bravo in Pillar Of Autumn. In LNOS you get massive points for taking out Banshees and Seraphs. In New Alexandria the same goes except Wraiths get you lots of points too. In PoA at the very end of the mission you jump in the cannon and start taking potshots at Phantoms that try and shoot you down. These are worth big points, but getting there through the Firefight and the double-hard Elites can be a painful thing. New Alexandria is likely easiest just be careful of your Falcon so you doesn’t explode around you!

  1. Vince says:

Thank goodness I’ve been practicing with YSS-1000 so much due to the custom challenge multiplier. :p

  2. JThomas says:

1500 for a campaign mission achievement? Wow, thanks 343

  3. For the campaign challenge, does anyone know if the campaign mission has to be finished after you get the 60k?

    • JThomas says:

Nope. Similar to the weekly challenge where you needed to get at least 250,000 pts, once you get the 60k you’ll see the notification and you can quit.

      • Micah (SpartanM914) says:

When I did the 250k on New Alexandria a few days ago, I quit & saved, and then the achievement popped.

  4. AmadeusMop says:

Given the requirements for #4, you should probably turn Iron on, as it’s a 3x multiplier. I think.
As for #3, there’s almost always a checkpoint right at the beginning of the level right before the moa come running out. So just run forward as soon as you get off the Falcon, and revert as soon as you kill both.

  5. famallama says:

Its been a while since i have had the time to come on here, let alone play, I dont recognize anyone :(. oh well everyone has lives i guess lol

  6. André says:

2/4 you can guess which ones. I hope 343i do an overhaul on the dailies.

  7. easy way for Nature vs Nurture, start WC at Rally Point Alpha, jump in the jeep and rush down to the first Skirmisher encounter. there are 5 of them there. if you’re really lucky you can splatter at least 3 or 4 of them, and they only take one pistol body shot to die.

if you pass the Skirmishers, you get a checkpoint just before the bridge, so shot them, revert and repeat. you can get this one in less than 2 minutes.
