12th April – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Watch this video to see the vidoc about the music being created for Halo 4. It’s a good sounding score, and the interesting beats make me eager to see the set pieces they’re put to in the game.

11th April – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

New phone time for me this week, I’m going to be ordering the new HTC One X. I hadn’t planned to get it until later in the year, but my current phone had a meeting with the tiles on my kitchen floor and doesn’t look so good anymore.

Still, good excuse for a new toy!

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Fire When Ready – Kill 50 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 3000 cR
  2. That Pink Mist – Kill 100 enemies with a Supercombine from the Needler or Needle Rifle in Firefight Matchmaking – 2500 cR
  3. Legendary Friends – Complete any Campaign mission on Legendary in co-op mode – 10000 cR
  4. Freelancing – Earn at least 20 kills in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 3500 cR

10th April – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

In the 5 days since I bought a PS3 I’ve played through Journey 6 times. Yesterday I even sat and watched someone else playing through it. At only about 2.5 hours long it’s pretty easy to get through in one sitting, which is in part what makes the story so wonderful. It’s emotive, and engaging, to such a high degree.

What surprised me whilst watching someone was how there are so many small things in video games that we know because we play them, but to anyone new they’re not obvious. It’s interesting because I looked at Journey as something perfect for a non-gamer, which it still is, but there are some definite elements that on the first play through aren’t as obvious.

Either way, if you have a PS3, go buy it. I’ll be shocked if it’s not one of the top games of the year, if not the top one!

Today’s challenges are:

  1. One Spartan Army – Kill 400 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 2000 cR
  2. Survivor – Earn 5 Sprees in a Firefight Matchmaking game – 2000 cR
  3. Golden Opportunity – Find and kill the Gold Ranger-class Elite in any Campaign mission on Heroic or harder – 5343 cR
  4. Home Field Advantage – Win 8 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 4400 cR

9th April – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Well I’ve been hoping they’d fix the challenges and get four available but there are still only 3 listed. Some odd things going on with the halo.xbox.com site, yesterday when I visited it showed the Halo Bulletin for this week coming (the 12th April edition) but sadly I couldn’t click into it.

If they do add another and I see it I’ll add it below, but for now today’s challenges are:

  1. Covenant-cide – Kill 120 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 3200 cR
  2. Killing Spree – Earn a Killing Spree in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR
  3. Survivor – Earn 9 Sprees in a Firefight Matchmaking game – 2000 cR

8th April – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Happy Easter folks!

Thanks to DaRoflBandit for starting the conversation yesterday on the proposed changes to multiplayer in Halo 4. There are definitely some interesting ideas being thrown into the mix. For my tuppence worth, Firefight was a great addition and game type for Halo, and is very much a tweaked version of Gears of War’s Horde mode. I have no problems with any developer looking at other games and taking what they see as the best ideas and implementing them in their franchise. The way Bioware have merged Horde/Firefight in ME3, and integrated it with single player, and included goals that mean you can’t just camp one area, show what the tops teams can do with interesting components.

The ideas being listed sound like they combine some of the interesting facets of Call of Duty such as personalised loadouts, whilst maintaining the in game balance that makes Halo more fun to play. Randomised weapon spawn points is a great counter to people camping areas, and a couple of the mentions of co-op sound like they’re taking it in a Syndicate or Battlefield type direction with squads playing and working together rather than just four people playing the single player. So I’m more interested in the game having heard these comments, but of course a lot is speculation until we get our hands on it!

Today’s challenges are:

  1. One Spartan Army – Kill 150 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 2250 cR
  2. There Are Many Like… – Kill 200 enemies with precision weapons in the Campaign today – 3000 cR
  3. A Side of Huevos – Kill 60 enemies with Sniper Rifle headshots in Nightfall on Normal – 2500 cR
  4. A Simple Spree – Earn any spree in Firefight Matchmaking – 2000 cR

7th April – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

I finally took the plunge yesterday and bought a PS3. One of the big supermarket chains (Sainsbury’s) knocked £40 off the price, and I had a further £60 in store credit built up, so it was effectively half price. 🙂

After only a day I can definitely see why the Xbox 360 is so dominant in this generation, in terms of general design, usability and range of games. But the volume of games I can only play on a Playstation has reached a decent amount so I figure it’s time. First game I played won’t surprise anyone after I said it was one of my most anticipated games – Journey. And it’s fabulous, such a great experience. I really hope it comes out on other platforms so it can get the recognition it deserves.

I’ve written a fuller post on my own site about it, so have a read and feel free to suggest any PlayStation games you reckon are worth picking up.

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2000 cR
  2. T-Hug it Out – Kill 4 enemies with close quarters combat in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1500 cR
  3. Twin Trips – Earn 2 Triple Kills in the same match in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR
  4. Five-Time Champ – Win 5 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 4343 cR
