30th January – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

What a good Sunday! 3 new challenges, some easy, some hard, and it’s Sunday. This’ll be fun…

Golden Opportunity – Find and kill the Gold Ranger-class Elite in any Campaign mission on Heroic or hard – 1000 cR

We’ve already had lots of discussion on one particular Gold Ranger in New Alexandria, but did you know there’s one in each level? Well the one in Exodus hasn’t been found last thing I heard. The one I know with certainty is in Winter Contingency (hands up if you didn’t think that was coming). If you get through the level fairly quickly (clearing out the first two groups of Grunts and Skirmishers), then run past the three Elites and start driving your way to the Marine defence section, you’ll pass a gold coloured Elite running. He’ll stop and fight you when you catch him, so jump out of the jeep and take that guy down. I’ll post a screenshot later when I try the challenge. If you want to find them on other levels, follow this excellent guide.

Make a Wish… – Earn a Running Riot in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1000 cR

15 guys in a row without dying. That’s not to say 15 within a few seconds, but in the span of one ‘life’. Not the easiest, and particularly not for 1000 credits. Best advice? If Grifball is still around then that’s always a good place if you can get your timing right and watch for betrayals. Juggernaut’s another good one. Infection can be good if you can get a decent team of humans together, but it’s hard to get 15 in the short space of time. In theory you can get this in any mode, it’s just harder to do it without dying in most variants. I expect everyone will have their own thoughts on this so please share in the comments.

Throwing Fireballs – Kill 7 enemies with grenades in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1200 cR

I’m tempted to do a poll to find out what’s better, Star Wars references or Mario references. Anyway, 7 kills with grenades isn’t difficult. As always I think the objective games in Multi-Team battle are good, especially Crazy King as you can chuck grenades in the ‘hill’ to try and get more than one guy. The Elite variant games can be good with sticky grenades, but Armour Lock is so common now it’s not worth it. I’m thinking perhaps Invasion too, since that’s also not based on kill volumes and you can throw grenades into the target areas when the opposition are unlocking something.

The Love of the Game – Complete 20 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2500 cR

It might take a bit of time but there’s no limitation on winning or weapons etc. Fastest games are often Infection as they go really quickly I find. If you want the kills for other challenges though I’d recommend Team SWAT/Slayer or Multi-Team as long as you can avoid Rocket Race! Equally, it’s a good chance to try out different variants you might not have played, so jump in BTB, Rumble Pit and Arena to see what they’re like.

I’m pleased to see more new challenges coming out, a second BOB challenge makes me think there is something more significant about them that we’ve not seen. Again, it’s probably just me hoping.

As per usual, if you have your own tips, please share in the comments.

Way to much work for such little points.

    • LordLiam316 says:

True. I will almost definitely try to get love of the game with a few infection games. I just laugh because you cab do that challenge afk and you get more cR than any other challenge that you actually have to work for.

    • JXibalba says:

Agree! Today’s challenges are more for those interested in completing new challenges rather than credit rewards.

Good for some – esp the new BOB challenge – but today I’ll just play for fun and see if I get 20 games completed.

  2. Braythor says:

In Winter Contingency I’m sure there’s one a bit earlier: get in the jeep, cross the bridge, pull into the first buildings that are on left, leg it to the short passageway in the centre that leads straight through to the other side and you’ll see him trying to do one down the hill.

    • Bryan Schmidt says:

I think you are talking about the same place.

    • Bryan Schmidt says:

But instead of hopping out of your jeep, keep driving around and you’ll get to him faster.

      • Matthew Vose says:

My point about getting out of the jeep when you find him is that he’s got a pretty good Grenade throw, and tends to stick me or the jeep when driving – instakill 😦

Make A Wish – Get a Running Riot in a MM game. For those who honestly get this it will require a lot of dumb luck, power weapon management and camping. For those who don’t care about honesty I would just full party boost this one. Get some friends (or a friend) and turn on all your xbox controllers. Go into SWAT together and just take turns giving head shots to everyone until you all get it. And before you ask – NO Bungie will not ban you for full party boosting, which is why this challenge is only worth 1000 points. I checked my Medals and I have only gotten 2 Running Riots in my entire Reach carrier, and one of them was with a Perfection. Oh and by the way, if you have a host migration it ends your spree. I was up to 11 in Multi-Team and had a migration, resets everything.

    • curt says:

oh the dreaded host migration…i was 22-0 in a game of rumble pit slayer on asylum, host migration, finished the game 25-0, got the perfection and rampage, but no untouchable, still havent gotten one…a riot for only 1000 cR is bs, i get alot of sprees, but i only have 11 riots in ~1000 games, try btb on hemorrhage, u can camp the sniper rifle, and you can wreck shit in the wraiths too (also the tanks on paradiso)

  4. GenuinRisk says:

Too little credits for a full Sundays work…playing for fun today.

  5. MVN says:

The easiest way is big team battle for a running riot

  6. Derrick says:

This video shows the three locations where the Bob can spawn on Winter Contingency. All three possible spawn locations are after you climb in the jeep.

  7. bryan says:

    So…what does BOB stand for?

  8. RatNamedSplintr (gt) says:

Hey!!! By far the easiest one to do is on the package. Load rally point alpha and run up to the top, following the ledge on the left hand side. Once you reach the area with lots of enemies, jump on the left ledge and go up the the platform. There is the Golden Eelite with some jackels. Nade the jackels and steal their plasma pistol. Take down his shield then kill him. DONE!. i looked forever online for some guides and couldn’t find one, so this is the easiest and fastest.

    • Matthew Vose says:

Did you see that I linked to guides on BOBs in the commentary above?

      • RatNamedSplintr (gt) says:

yeah, it was confusing for me to read. I couldn’t find the one on winter at all. 😦 The screen shots don’t really help. It just proves that they are in the level. I just posted that so if people like me couldn’t find them and didn’t have all day. The way I described took max 5 minutes. 🙂 Also, thanks for everything you do, I visit everyday!!!

  9. Ramsay says:

I managed to get Golden Opportunity in under 1 minute by loading Winter Contingency from Rally Point Alpha. I got him at the first spot in Derrick’s video.

ive sprinted through winter contingency more times than I count, completely ignoring BOB, it was quite odd (and somewhat satisfying) to splatter him on my way down the hill lol cant believe that was a challenge haha

Got my first multi-player RR in Griffball. Key is to get and hold onto the ball and punch away. Just go back and forth near the middle so that you can use the health packs on either side of the center line. Also, try to take on only one opponent at a time, let your teammates thin them out for you.

  13. brightenheezy says:

I have been reading a lot about these data pads on each level. Is there any Cr significance to these or are they just for personal enjoyment? lol
