18th April – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

Very low credits today, but a very easy set of challenges, giving you lots of time to try and get through Exodus for the great payout on the new Weekly Challenge. For now…

More than a Handful – Kill 25 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1000 cR

Multi Team Battle is the best way to get lots and lots of kills, you tend to get more than any other mode. If you play Crazy King or Oddball you can get even more as some people who would shoot you go for the objective, and you can take them out. Seasoned Grifball players will also be able to get this in only a game or two, and if you can make an area in an Infection game defensible as a human you can rack up kills quickly.

I’m Rubber, You’re Glue – Earn 1 sticky grenade Kills in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1000 cR

How you can get 1 sticky grenade kill in more than one game I’m not sure. But anyway, any Elite Slayer where you’re given Plasma Grenades, although beware Armour Lock dudes as they’ll not give you the kill. Alternatively, Slayer Pro has a loadout that includes Plasma Grenades, or there are some scattered round a lot of maps in normal Multiplayer modes. Some Rumble Pit modes include Plasma Grenades in the loadouts too.

There Are Many Like – Kill 200 enemies with precision weapons in the Campaign today – 1500 cR

Precision weapons are the DMR, Sniper Rifle, Needle Rifle and Focus Rifle (anything that can headshot except the Pistol, which is small arms, although you don’t need to headshot for the challenge). Nightfall is good, because you start with loads and loads of ammo for the Sniper Rifle, and you can shoot the first Elite in the head, restart checkpoint and do it over and over, although for 1000 that’ll get a trifle dull. Winter Contingency from Rally Point Bravo which has DMRs in the base and lots of guys dropped off to shoot at you. I think ONI Sword Base also starts off with the DMR as well, and a series of Grunts running towards you quickly. With 200 being such a large kill volume that might be your best bet, to start there, take out the Grunts and Jackals then restart the mission.

Three Dog Fight – Earn a Triple Kill in Multiplayer Matchmaking – 1000 cR

Multi-Team, Grifball and Team SWAT usually yield a good chance for multikills. Rumble Pit, particularly Juggernaut, is also an excellent place to do it in. Probably Grifball works best for you here, since it’s a massive melee with one hit kills for the most part.

So pretty easy to grab, and you could probably get the 3 multiplayer challenges in one game if you have a good session. If you have any thoughts of your own feel free to add them into the comments.

Save for the weekly challenges, some pretty simple challenges up for grabs today! Seasoned players should be done in an hour or so with these ones.

  2. Scruff UK says:

I predict low comments today; these dailies are too easy to comment on! 😉 Will probably go for the MM ones but can’t really be bothered grinding out 200 DMR kills in Campaign when a single game of Team Slayer will get me more than 1,500 credits.

    “1 kills”? Really?! 😉

    • Edward (Marshy 40) says:

It’s not too bad, I got the 200 kills on The Package RP Bravo. 12 minutes, so about even-steven with MM. Maybe a lower payout, but ideal for a quick break during lunch.

  3. Tim Everitt says:

200 Precision kills will take a while to complete. If your Campaign Commendation “Precisely” level is within 200+/-, it’s worth the time to stack them on your total. cR payout for all Campaign Commendations totals 95,425 cR, with “Precisely” yielding 3000 cR for both Gold and Onyz levels: http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Commendations.

I generally review my commendation near completes every couple of days, attempt to complete each daily challenge (although I suck at Running Riot), leveraging those dailies to move those near completes further.

Commendations are a secondary element to the gameplay, but if you’re like me and play all 3 elements of the game (MM, Campaign, FF), finding ways (legitimate or otherwise) to add to the Commendation levels helps the ultimate goal of reaching Inheritor before the next Halo story arrives.

    • Scruff UK says:

Absolutely, and I have no shame in saying that I boost the Campaign ones like a crazy person. Well, boosting in terms of reloading checkpoints, and occasionally using some sticky tape on my controller! I see no harm in it; it’s not hurting anyone else’s game (like boosting FF ones does), and it saves me a great deal of time. I don’t see how legitimately killing 15,000 enemies with a heavy weapon is proof that you’re a better player than someone who just boosts the target designator trick for a little while. Plus, some of the commendations are STUPID. To max out Demon you need to complete 540 levels of Campaign, which is equivalent to finishing the game from start to finish 60 times. SIXTY! Who’s going to actually do that?!

Anyway, back on topic… If I were at home all day today then I probably would bother with the DMR kills, since it’s credits and I haven’t yet maxed the Precisely commendation. But I’m at work, which means I’m going to have, at most, an hour on Halo tonight. So I’ll be making the most of my gaming time with a light spot of MM instead! 🙂

      • Tim Everitt says:

No doubt, gotta pick the battles when time constraints are a factor. Some of the Commendations seem unattainable without boosting, however I could see a single type player (only FF, or only MM), could work towards them during the normal course of gameplay.

        (*Onyx)

  4. Clone 066 says:

Fast way to get the 200 kills will be to run past all enemies on ONI like you would to do the air strike glitch but instead pick up the DMR checkpoint, kill all ememies, reset ckpnt, repeat. Also if you make them headshots then you’ll build pinpoint as well. So yes it can be worth the time.

  5. Matthew says:

An easy way to get a triple kill is to just go into a BTB, get in the tank or wraith, and shoot down a warthog wth 3 ppl in it. Got this in about a minute after starting game.

    • Matt says:

One thing that’s worked for me in the past, along similar lines, is DMR-spamming a loaded Warthog or Falcon (or Wraith/Scorpion/Revenant if you don’t need a triple). Sometimes you get lucky and take the vehicle down by yourself – far easier to do with a sniper rifle. Often, your teammates are shooting it too, and then you all have some chance of being awarded the multikill when it goes down. A few days ago I picked up a triple and a double by DRM-spamming a Falcon twice in one game in Community BTB.

      • Matthew says:

Yeah, spamming is good with vehicles especially with low health. Rocket launcher or spartan lazer is always better, but either way they can get you lots of kills.

  6. Edward (GT: Marshy 40) says:

Four challenges, three games — it doesn’t get much better than that!

  7. Mister X says:

If you boost you can get a ban?

    • i think it depends how and what you mean by boost. if you mean campaign reloading checkpoints kind of deal, probably not.

if you mean other ways, some have said you can.

      • Scruff UK says:

Bungie have said that they’re ok with you boosting Campaign commendations – as in reloading checkpoints over and over – so long as it’s actually you doing it, and not some crazy auto controller that does it by itself.

Using sticky tape / rubber bands on your controller and going AFK to get the Campaign commendations / challenges is dubious.

Full party boosting is entirely banned.

Going AFK in Firefight to get Perfections etc is really walking the line. Chances are you’ll get banned if someone reports you; and if it’s me you’re playing with when you go AFK, I *will* report you.

Doing anything like interfering with your connection / lag-switching in Matchmaking could not only get you banned on Halo, but get you banned on XBL for life. So don’t do it.

Hope that answers your very vague question! 😉

      • Shane says:

Scruff, when you say report, do you mean filing a complaint to Xbox Live? As much as I’d like to do that, I’m unsure that being AFK violates the terms and conditions. If you can show me where it does then I’ll happily report away!

      • Scruff UK says:

Yeah… Can’t say I’ve read the entire “Terms and Conditions” document, but the description for “Cheating” *does* say “used known in-game exploits…” which is exactly what going AFK for credits is.

Maybe nothing will come of it, but I have heard of people being (rightly) banned from being reported to Xbox Live. Could just be rumours, but hey. Filing a complaint about people still makes me feel better! 😉

      • Shane says:

Hmm… I guess that does fit the description. 🙂

    • kardain says:

Yes. I got a 24 hour ban for “team boosting”

2 guests AFK, but had me and 4 others shenaniganing in Rumble Pit during “drunken halo night” cause it was getting a might difficult choosing settings in custom.

  8. MJOLNIR Tester says:

It took me 25 minutes to do the There Are Many Like… challenge. Winter Contingency, Normal difficulty, Rally Point Alpha. Get into the vehicle with Carter and George. The first goal is to kill the three Skirmishers with Needle Rifles and take their rifles. Drive past the first pair of Skirmishers because they don’t have Needle Rifles. Cross the bridge and let Carter and Jorge kill the second Skirmisher pair. They will usually make a run for the house where there are more Covenant waiting, so make sure to cut off their escape route. Hop out and trade your magnum pistol for your first Needle Rifle.

Get back in the vehicle drive past the house through the breezeway to the next pair of Skirmishers, one of whom has a Needle Rifle. Again, they will often make a run for the house you just passed, so block his escape or run him down if he gets past you. Pick up your second Needle Rifle (ammo).

Get back in the vehicle, drive down the hill and past the house next to the stream. Nothing good here so keep on going up the hill toward the trapped troopers. The last pair of Skirmishers will be standing in the middle of the road. You can usually splatter one while Carter and George kill the other. Pick up your third Needle Rifle (ammo). You should now have a Needle Rifle with a full magazine and around 46 reload rounds.

Drive up the hill to the trapped troopers. I usually park my vehicle between the burning Warthog and the large rock, creating a barrier that helps to keep Grunts from getting close enough to hurl grenades at the troopers. Hop out and shoot the pack of Grunts with the Needle Rifle, your first kills with it. When all of the Grunts are dead you’ll get a checkpoint. Sprint to the garage where the troopers are taking cover and trade your Assault Rifle for the DMR rifle on the floor. Jun will say that he has visual on incoming Covenant dropships. Carter will tell the evac transport to keep its distance, and he’ll tell you to hold position and clear a LZ. While that script is playing go to the roof of the garage and take cover behind the tall cylindrical chimney on the top of the roof (not the one on the hill). It provides cover from fire from the dropships and Elites, and the location provides excellent sight lines.

Start with the DMR Rifle, scope on, crouched behind the chimney (crouching increases your accuracy stat), looking around the left side of the chimney. The Spirit will drop four Grunts in a pack. After you take them out look around the right side of the chimney and take out the Grunts that came out of the other side of the Spirit. Don’t shoot at the Elites.

When the next Spirit dropship approaches take cover behind the chimney so it won’t shoot at you. Switch to the Needle Rifle and look around the left side of the chimney. The dropship will deposit some Grunt Ultras and the Needle Rifle supercombine makes quick work of them. Then look around the right side and take out the rest of the Grunts. Do not shoot at or kill the Elites. When all or all but one of the Grunts are dead Revert to Last Save and repeat.

With each round you will kill around a dozen Grunts with the Needle Rifle and DMR. The number varies because sometimes Carter or Jorge will kill a Grunt before you can. Just don’t kill an Elite because sometimes you will get another checkpoint that keeps you from going back to the checkpoint you want.

By the way, I also use this same checkpoint for the Short, Controlled Bursts challenge (Kill 100 enemies with automatic weapons in the Campaign today) but instead of the Needle Rifle and DMR Rifle I use an Assault Rifle and a Plasma Repeater from one of the Elites killed earlier in the mission. Instead of waiting on the roof I take cover behind some rocks next to the road. When the Spirit comes I head toward it and it drops the Grunts right in front of me. After killing those and the others in the first wave I sprint up the road and take cover behind some rocks while the second Spirit unloads. Then I kill the next group of Grunts, reload the checkpoint, and repeat.

  9. REvOfEv EcHELoN (Lex) says:

Easy Triple Kill on any BTB match with hornets in it I like Spire because you are prety much always a chance there will be a fully loaded hornet having your way. While everyone scrambles for the best vehicle in the beginning pick sprint and head either under re spire or in the rocks to the right (depending on the side of the map youll spawn on) grab the rockets and shoot 2 rockets atthe enemy hornet while it’s preoccupied with your teams plane. Hope it helps

  10. Shane says:

A game of Grifball (thank you AFKers) and a quick game of Multiteam. I have the commendation so the campaign challenge doesn’t pay very well. Now I can be productive for the rest of the day!

  11. Tom says:

1 game of slayer pro + 1 game of grifball = all multiplayer challenges complete. The 200 campaign kills took a while though.

  12. A matt on my droid we have a app called reAch service record when you go to challenges and then the sub page hints and commantary it redirects you to this site. I thought it was funny since I always go here and now my app gives me a short redirection to the days challenges.
