Commentary follows after the break…

One Spartan Army – Kill 100 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR

You get 120 Grunts in Gruntpocalypse, about 100 enemies in Score Attack and something like 330 in a Firefight Matchmaking game (although split between up to 4 people). So jump into some sort of Score Attack variant to get this really quickly, especially an easy one like 2X Score Attack to get the next challenge too…

On The Sixth Respawn… – Complete a Firefight Matchmaking game with fewer than 5 deaths – 2000 cR

Go into Scoer Attack and choose your favourite game type, just play it slowly and carefully. Drop Shield’s a good idea too if you can, as long as you’re prepared to run away and heal if needed. 5 deaths isn’t difficult, most of you should be aiming to do it in one or less!

There Are many Like… – Kill 200 enemies with precision weapons in the Campaign today – 1500 cR

Precision weapons are the DMR, Sniper Rifle, Needle Rifle and Focus Rifle (anything that can headshot except the Pistol, which is small arms, although you don’t need to headshot for the challenge). Nightfall is good, because you start with loads and loads of ammo for the Sniper Rifle, and you can shoot the first Elite in the head, restart checkpoint and do it over and over (a little dull but quick and easy). Winter Contingency from Rally Point Bravo which has DMRs in the base and lots of guys dropped off to shoot at you. I think ONI Sword Base also starts off with the DMR as well, and a series of Grunts running towards you quickly. With 200 being such a large kill volume that might be your best bet, to start there, take out the Grunts and Jackals then restart the mission.

You Want This, Don’t You? – Earn 14 kills with precision weapons in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2000 cR

This is fairly easy in Team SWAT. Precision weapons are the DMR, Sniper Rifle, Needle Rifle and Focus Rifle (anything that gives a headshot bar the Pistol). So in SWAT you can easily kit up the DMR and just play the game. 14 in one game is a little tough, but should be attainable. Other options are Rumble Pit and grab something lying around, or a Team Snipers game.

Just a reminder that tomorrow night is Wednesday! I know, some of you couldn’t care less about Wednesday but that ALSO means that it’s time for our weekly game night. The last two weeks were so much fun, we’re doing it again. Check out the RDC Game Night page for the details. Short version: tomorrow night, some matchmaking, some BTB/Invasion, and even some customs. (Alternatively you could click up near the top of the page where it says RDC Game Night.) If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, ask away. Happy hunting!

Surprisingly good payouts today! If I get chance to do any of these I’ll hammer out a quick game of FF and then hopefully just one game of SWAT. Can’t much be bothered with the Campaign one, especially considering that I’m close to maxing out my pistol kills now!

As far as the two FF ones go – don’t do Gruntpoc. Although Grunts are undoubtedly easier to kill than enemies in other modes, they can take you out suddenly with lucky grenades and the FRG. 2x Score Attack is considerably more forgiving.
Or you could go to one of the many safe zones in FF and snipe from a safe distance, but doing this in a game with other people will make you incredibly unpopular 😉

Another alternative for the MM one if you’re not a fan of SWAT is to go for Squad Slayer. Most games start you with a DMR and although it’s 5 to a team, it’s 75 kills to win, giving you more opportunity to hit the 14 kills required.

  2. Tom says:

200 kills in the campaign is a biiiig grind. There’s only two games worth out of the other three challenges though, so I suppose it equals out.

    • Edward (GT: Marshy 40) says:

Nah, just do it on The Package, Rally Point Bravo. You can get this in under ten minutes by running to the area with the “A” defense gun, and reloading checkpoints. There’s about 10 grunts and brutes that drop from the ship.

      • KingoftheRats says:

Or just use the oni sword base checkpoint its right in the beginning of the level very simple if you don’t feel like having to aim and shoot 200 times.

  3. Braythor says:

Not a bad day at all. I’m actually going to do the campaign one as I’m in the process of catching up on legendary mode with my campaign in order to be all set for getting the achievements on the next LASO. Just done LNoS and got ~75 toward the challenge, now only Exodus to go and then it’s just PoA left. It’s such a shame that you don’t get commendation cR for solo/offline campaign stuff. I think folk would be far more willing to do these grinding campaign challenges if we just got a few extra cR. Not much, maybe on the same scale that FF matchmaking gives for commendations. I know you can get a bigger payout coop online but I prefer doing the campaign solo (or split screen).

  4. Sir Galahad 63 says:

    So to get this straight:
How many times am I allowed to die in a FFM game to still get the challenge?

    • Scruff UK says:

“Fewer than five” = Four deaths maximum.

Should be more than do-able in a solo game of 2x Score Attack if you play sensibly.

  5. Sir Galahad 63 says:

Is there anyone who would like to do the weekly with me at 9am onwards tomorrow (Australian time) (EST I think). That would be around 2am UK time lol.

    • Tom says:

I could do that. I’m in Australia too in whatever time zone Melbourne is in, so probs 9AM as well.

      • Sir Galahad 63 says:

Awesome, my GT is the same as my name, yours?

      • Tom says:

I hope it doesn’t take more than 3 hours because I have uni at 12:00 (but only 1 class, so we may have to do it in two blocks. My username is Tomozaurus, I’ll add you now.

  6. damn, why couldn’t the DMR one have been yesterday? i had a couple AWESOME games of SWAT where i had 20+ kills and like 3 deaths. much better than my average 12/13 per game….sigh.

  7. Chris (El Chingon) says:

Swat potato =’s all the kills you’ll need.

  8. KingoftheRats says:

Hey is anyone else having this same problem as me but whenever we have a daily challenge to play 4 games or whatever of MM I will complete it but it will never give me the credits and thenyesterday. I got a rampage perfection on one game and a killing frenzy on other with no challenge complete just wondering ?

    • Scruff UK says:

Yesterday you needed two killing sprees. Not a killing frenzy. Two killing sprees. 5 kills in a row, twice. Not 10 kills in a row, once. I know it’s stupid, and I know that a Frenzy should’ve counted, but it doesn’t on that challenge I’m afraid 😦

As for the “complete [x] games”, it *does* give you the credits, it just never shows it on the post-game roundup. Once you’ve completed the fifth (or whatever) game and returned to the main menu, press start and go to challenges. It will show up as completed, and if you pay attention to your current cR you’ll see that you did get the cR for it.

  9. KingoftheRats says:

Thanks Scruff I probally should pay more. Attentionn to my actual cr before I get the challenge ill look for it next time. As for the challenge yesterday I find that rather annoying that you would have to get a killy spree and then die and then get another one seems like it doesn’t make much sense because I would get a killing spree then I would pick up a sniper and its not like I’m going to die on purpose just to get another killing spree. They should change that if that challenge comes up again

    • meh. other days the challenge is get a Killing Frenzy so i think it’s okay. besides, in a game like grifball, odds are good that you’ll get 2 killing sprees since you play at least 3 rounds.

  10. Simmons9552 says:

I’d say for the fewer than five challenge go to courtyard on Score Attack or 2X Score Attack. Why? Because courtyard has one great place to camp where you can stay in the room and shoot down any enemies with your shotgun. Suprisengly I’m talking about the place you start out. That is defentally the best way to get that challenge fast. Also for the pricision kills if youre really skilled you can camp in team snipers and just gun down anyone you see. That’s how I completed that challenge.

    • Scruff UK says:

“if youre really skilled you can camp”

      lol

      • Simmons9552 says:

        Lol that does sound stupid……..

      • guess i’m not skilled then, i can’t stand camping, really. i get too bored and run off looking for people to fight….maybe this is why i hate shotty/snipers so much. fascinating! thank you dr scruff!

  11. michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

I know you will think i sound crazy but i dont think i have ever gotten a headshot with the Focus Rifle. I use it every now and then in Firefight and the campaign but when i hit someone with it in the head and kill them it doesnt register as a headshot. What am i missing?

    • no idea, i never use the damn thing. i think it’s possibly even more obnoxious than the sentinel beam…

      • michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

I dont really like it either. Seems like it takes too long to take an enemy out with it.

      • Shane says:

I use it on a friend of mine in custom games when he’s being annoying. I call it the annoying gun. It annoys him greatly.

    • Matt says:

It doesn’t do headshots. Think of it as mostly an assist boosting device. Also, it’s pretty good at close range and for descoping people.

      • michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

I was just wondering since in Matthews post above it says anything that can headshot and has it listed. I have seen him post this for previous challenges and always wondered why the Focus Rifle was in there with the DMR and Needle Rifle as a Precision Weapon. 🙂

      • Shane says:

I think it is a precision weapon alright, just one that can’t do headshots. Same deal with the plasma pistol as small arms.

  12. michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

I know this is off topic but have any of you played the game Brink yet? Its a pretty good game i guess, doesnt hold a candle to Reach though. 😉

  13. Shane says:

As Chris says, for “You Want This, Don’t You?”, SWAT potato is a great game. In my experience though it doesn’t come up often / people don’t vote for it.

I just got mine in Multi-Team Elite Slayer but otherwise would have gone for Invasion which works well as long as both teams get to the third round since you only need 7 kills per half. Boneyard would be my pick since you can pick up the BR/needle rifle at the start and get a couple of early kills in from a distance (spartans from up top, elites at the top of their right hand stairs looking at the first objective). Pick up the sniper to take out enemy vehicles, the focus rifle to take out enemies in the open or close quarters, or just rely on the loadout.

  14. mickoboy90 says:

Easy challenges but not doing the campaign one..too much time consuming for 2k??u can get that in one game of mm if you are higher level..but for less than five deaths,my best option would be firefight arcade,as there are more people and enemies dont go for you only..sniper fight on corvete best choice..good luck

    • campaign challenges like this may be time consuming and yes, you CAN get the points elsewhere but it’s a way to build up your commendations if they aren’t already maxed out. it’s a way to get people to play different parts of the game and to work on other skill sets. 🙂

  15. michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

For the 200 Precision Weapon kills in Campaign i went to Nightfall and got a checkpoint while i was zoomed in on the first elites head. I did the revert to save thing over and over and i got 100 kills within about 4 minutes. So if your lucky you can get this by doing the above in under 10 minutes easy. It might take a few tries to get a checkpoint where you want it and if it doesnt work just keep starting over til you get one zoomed in on his head. Good Luck!

    • alternatively, last time this came up i just took out the elite and the 5 grunts over and over. i might actually play through the level this time, not sure yet…

      • Tim Everitt says:

I personally found it more fun to work through to the Jet Pack Elites, then take out what comes in the dropship until you run out of ammo, and restart.

I’ll use the first Elite restart from checkpoint if it is lower than a hundred, but 200…. 😉

    • Dogmeat says:

Once I found the campaign guide that I3utteRzZ put together (complete with video examples on his file share) a few months ago, I use rally point Bravo (rally point Alpha if you need a plasma pistol, plasma rifle, and/or focus beam rifle) on The Package for almost every campaign daily challenge! I still had a checkpoint from the 75 grunts daily challenge and headshotted my way through 200 of the little methane breathers with my DMR in 2 1/2 minutes. That amount of time about breaks even (if not surpasses) the credit payout with a high-ranking MP matchup. Granted, it takes an additional couple of minutes to set up from the beginning of Bravo. Add 5 more from the Alpha rally point (which is only necessary if you are setting up a commendation-building checkpoint). This single spot helps advance 7 different commendations depending on your weapon choices! If only you could get 10 grunts dropped off instead of 8, you could work on Super Soldier as well. *sigh*

  16. OMGBBQWTFLOL says:

2x score attack netted the first two challenges really easily. Did the 8 grunt checkpoint in The Package RP Bravo to grind the campaign. One game of invasion slayer netted me over 20 precision kills. 4 challenges very fast with good payouts makes up for the hard weekly, although I might try my hand at a LASO with some friends.
