Halo Reach Weekly Challenge & Commentary – w/c 20th February

This week’s challenge is below, click Read More to view the commentary:

Play to Win – Win 77 games in multiplayer Matchmaking this week – 20343 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

What game types give you a better chance of winning? Rule #1 is definitely play a 2 team gametype. If you’ve got Rumble Pit, Infection or Multi Team going there are so many competitors that you’ve gotta be pretty good to get the big W. Game types that you should be looking at:

  1. Grifball – Can be really easy to win, everyone gets annoyed at someone who grabs the bomb and scores quickly but it is easy and you can win a game in a minute or two
  2. Team Slayer/SWAT/Action Sack/Objective… – Any of the Team gametypes in any playlist are good. 2 teams so you’ve got a higher chance of winning, especially if you trust your team and can play well together
  3. Invasion – Longer games and slightly trickier to win, but they’re really good at helping the whole gamut of Commendations, plus often help with the Challenges too
  4. Arena – Arena can be really tough, but it’s still the same idea of two teams battling it out

There are more gametypes, frankly pick your best and keep at it. This is a proper weekly challenge that you can build on during the week, and then at the weekend top up if you need any more for it, look out for Daily Challenges that help too.

Managed to get the previous weekly with 40 minutes to spare before the challenges rolled over. Gave me just enough time to set up some custom challenges to accomodate 400 kills, and I managed to get One Spartan Army with two minutes left on the clock!

I’m now only 40,000 credits away from the big 1,000,000, where my prize of sweet sweet Pestilence awaits!

    • André says:

Nice, I just got past 1.000.000 today but still need one million more for Inclement Weather. I managed to get 4/4 half an hour before the new challenges. I also finished 400/300 in custom challenges. Not sure if I’ll bother with this weekly though. I can make more credits in other ways like firefight with custom challenges while going for the 10.000 small arm kills. I just play 2x score attack and get 114ish kills each game with the plasma pistol. I need 1800 more 🙂

    • JayDub says:

What is the 400 kill OSA custom?

      • SamCiphus says:

Yeah this weekly really isb’t worth the effort I don’t think Andre.
JayDub, the customs I set up with OSA were 400 kills and 400 medals, I didn’t do headshots because for the time being I am BORED of the DMR in FF.

      • André says:

The only downside to not using DMR is the fewer medals. Using the plasma pistol I had under half the number of medal compared to kills. I then choose Skirmigeddon on glacier and used DMR to finish my 300 medal challenge, and got a perfection as well 🙂 I might play in a team slayer with my friends over the week, see how far I get on the weekly.

      • SamCiphus says:

        Nice.
What’s your gamertag? Are you Escobar Returns? I might sling you a friend request.

      • André says:

Why I didn’t use the pistol for headshot medals idk, lol, I guess I’m so used to plasma pistol on mythic and it works great on all enemies without reloading.

Yes it’s Eskobar Returns. I play a lot of different games but I play Halo: Reach the most.

  2. Brian says:

That’s a bit of a grind and it’s not really worth it. I mean it averages out to 11 wins per day and the daily challenge for 12 wins has been 10,000 cR. Unless you have a grifball team that is good and can win the game in 30 seconds every time, I say skip it.

    • Brian the second says:

But think all of the credits you’ll get by making yourself play that many games.

    • Albeezzyy says:

I completely agree. Many challenges are simply not worth the effort for the credits. It’s that inner feeling of accomplishment that drives you. Also, you can pick up medals and accolades along the way and sometimes you are forced out of your comfort zone which in turn makes you better.

If you have a team to play with this challenge should be so easy. Especially a type like Action Sack–the games can be so short and you generally play against a bunch of randoms. Unfortunately for me my buddies hardly play Reach so I’m usually a lone wolf 😉

  3. DaRoflBandit says:

Hey everyone, why can’t I get to halo.xbox.com? All of the other websites that I go to work, but when I try to go to halo.xbox.com it just gets stuck in the loading for the webpage. Is there any reason why this is happening, and are any of you getting this problem too? It’s been happening for only this specific website for a couple of days now, and I don’t know how to make it work. :
    😦

    • l0 Dolla Bagel says:

This happens to me to. ):
What I usually do is go into ‘InPrivate Browsing’ and then it works.
I think mine started when I got windows 7 ultimate so maybe that was the problem.

    • Albeezzyy says:

Check your browser (try another), make sure you have updated flash, java, shockwave. As 10 Dolla Bagel says Private browsing can help.

    • PEM1989 says:

This happens from time-to-time to me with the xbox, Bungie, and Waypoint sites. I go to the login site, http://explore.live.com/home, log in and stay logged in, then all three sites work.

      • DaRoflBandit says:

Thanks guys, all I had to do was try a different browser (which was Firefox, before I was trying it with Google Chrome) and it worked.

  4. Muskett says:

For some reason I’m not getting credits for custom challanges, anyone else have this problem or anyone got any soluctions?

  5. Brian aka dragao1010 says:

Well there’s goes my 28 weekly challenge streak, this weeky is not worth the extra time as much as I love grifball. But just means for
Custom firefight challenges to fill the gap. Plus batman arkham city is faaaabously awesome 😀

  6. Dogmeat says:

I would like to fully express my feelings for this weekly as it thwarts my efforts for working on vehicle commendations (BTB games take too long), requires twice as many played games due to randoms, and (given the daily challenges today) has nothing to do with multiplayer matchmaking. I want to tell 343i what I’m really thinking, but the Internet would run out of space.

Instead, I’ll use my time to TRY and win 15-20 games each day so that I have a bit of a buffer for the week. I’ve used team slayer in the past when we only had to worry about 7-8 wins a day. Maybe I’ll play some Action Sack for a change and Squad DLC to work on snagging the “Don’t Touch That!” achievement.

    • Dogmeat says:

Hmmm…meant to say the daily challenges have nothing to do with multiplayer matchmaking today. With how many wins you need each day, you’re going to need that extra 20-30 minutes!

  7. Dan says:

Not worth my time, I couldn’t even get the 12 for 10k before, the most wins I have ever gotten in 1 day was 6. I’m usually paired with idiots in team slayer, firefight, coop campaign, and well everything to be honest. Today I was doing firefight, got some nice kills in arcade 4 person with the rockethog, and this noob comes up and starts driving so I tell him not to blow it up. After 30 kills it blows up, when it respawns he drives it with me into out of bounds. After that I intentionally blew up his ghost, bloody morons. This guy was a mythic too, can’t these people see how hard vehicular is to boost up? I need 2000 more till I reach Onyx. If you’re bored of the dmr in firefight, then switch to the pistol or needle rifle. The pistol is great cuz you get headshots
AND small arms. Just use pistol/plasma pistol. Medal CC’s are worth less than headshot cc’s. A good manuever is to set 1000 kill and 500 headshot challenges. I need 2200 small arms kills and 353 assists till onyx backup. I also just need another 33 perfect games of arcade to reach Silver perfectionist! Yahoo!!!!!!!

    • SamCiphus says:

I think the pistol is the way to go. If i’m in for a long FF session I used to set up 1000 kills and 1000 headshots, but I onyxed headshots recently, so I’ll be choosing medals from now on.

      • Dan says:

Why not just continue headshots until you max it out? Just because you don’t get a 2000 credit boost for maxing after it’s onyx doesn’t mean there is no point in stopping. I’m about 40% through onyx Dome Inspector myself.

  8. Rossco says:

Yep this is a true weekly. You need every devoted playing minute of the week to multiplayer matchmaking to get this one. Usually I would play grifball all week until I get it but today was a discouraging day I got 2 out of 7 matches won in grifball. Everyone on my team was betraying and others teams were walking right in. I used to be able to get 20 wins in a given day on gball.

So I said screw it I will try something else and I chose swat where I got 2 wins out of 4 matches. Better then the gball experience but I still wanted aittle more control. So I switched again this time to team slayer, was able to get 7 wins out of 8 matches there. Slayer seems to be best option as long as you can fit in at least 15 matches a day.

I prolly won’t complete weekly but still should come close. At least I finally hit a 33,000 jackpot today by playing slayer. /ood luck to those grinding this out it will be tough.

  9. fishingdude64 says:

I just complete the weekly challenge and i did not get the points for this weekly i never do why is that?

    • l0 Dolla Bagel says:

You didn’t complete it, you only have five wins out of seventy-seven.

Also if anyone wants to play to get this weekly challenge, shoot me a request at 10 Dollar Bagel. 🙂

    • Rossco says:

Yep there is no way u completed it yet.

    • callupchuck says:

… You have not completed this week’s weekly challenge. Perhaps you were looking at a daily challenge. Also, “i never do” doesn’t really make sense since you have completed 30 weekly challenges.

  10. André says:

I think I have 7 wins so I will def. drop this. I played Arena earlier with low ranks, +20 k/d in 2 games +10 k/d in 2 games. so that was 4 wins right there. It was the 2 random low ranks on our team kept matching us up to people not that great. My daily score was 1585 (usually 1400). I think the system is flawed if you can make it that easy.

    • André says:

Thankfully I have broadband where I’m at now so I’ll be playing some Reach.

      • josh says:

I got the weekly on Saturday. Benefits of a newborn and late night feedings.
